5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Clear and well structured By vrto As a Java developer I've been using plenty of web frameworks over recent years. Every single of them was either using JSP, or was built on the top of Servlets or at least required some configuration in deployment descriptor. Even though I felt quite productive, there have always been present these little things that kept bothering me. If you often happen to see stack traces ending somewhere in servlet classes you know what I am talking about. After some time I realized that it might be good idea to dive into the basics and try to understand the pillar stones of the specification that many frameworks utilize. So I got this book.The book is extremely well structured and the order of chapters makes perfect sense. Each chapter starts with gentle introduction to the problem, properly describes the most important use cases of the core components and ends up with fine-grained details that you might refer to in the future. Chapters have very reasonable length and provided examples are clear. With correct zoom even the Kindle version has proper formatting, which seems (unfortunately) kinda rare in tech books.The only thing that was disturbing me was that author was using fully-qualified class names in API descriptions, even for java.lang.String or java.util.List. But overall impression of the book was very good so I easily forgave author this little annoyance and focused on the content instead.

Fulfills its mission By GABRIEL VAZQUEZ PADUA Well I've read most of this book already, it has been an easy reading, the author explains things in an easy way and gives easy to folllow examples. To be able to follow the examples you must already know core java programming since the author does not goes to the explanation of java language. This is a good starting point to learn JSP/servlets though the examples could have been more practical if the author had ncluded database programming earlier in the book. But the chapter 10 which is a recap of all previous learning and applying it to a more complete application is very good. I have not read the chapters on file download/upload yet but I expect them to add practicality to the book examples.

No waste of time By PetRaf If you are new to Servlets or you just have an idea of what is and want to be guided through, first hand on how to master this web application, this is your book. Really a no waste of time at all book. It really impressed me how simple this book explain complicated things. I'm new to Servlets and a thought it will be a waste of time trying to understand this them with just one book, but the simple language and simple examples he use, was no waste of time at all. If you know how to use a browser, your in. From now on this book will be my #1 recommendation to any buddy that wants to learn Servlets & JSP. It's easy but powerful.

"What information do these data reveal?" "Is the information correct?" "How can I make the best use of the information?" The widespread use of computers and our reliance on the data generated by them have made these questions increasingly common and important. Computerized data may be in either digital or analog form and may be relevant to a wide range of applications that include medical monitoring and diagnosis, scientific research, engineering, quality control, seismology, meteorology, political and economic analysis and business and personal financial applications. The sources of the data may be databases that have been developed for specific purposes or may be of more general interest and include those that are accessible on the Internet.

In addition, the data may represent either single or multiple parameters. Examining data in its initial form is often very laborious and also makes it possible to "miss the forest for the trees" by failing to notice patterns in the data that are not readily apparent. To address these problems, this monograph describes several accurate and efficient methods for displaying, reviewing and analyzing digital and analog data. The methods may be used either singly or in various combinations to maximize the value of the data to those for whom it is relevant. None of the methods requires special devices and each can be used on common platforms such as personal computers, tablets and smart phones. Also, each of the methods can be easily employed utilizing widely available off-the-shelf software.

Using the methods does not require special expertise in computer science or technology, graphical design or statistical analysis. The usefulness and accuracy of all the described methods of data display, review and interpretation have been confirmed in multiple carefully performed studies using independent, objective endpoints. These studies and their results are described in the monograph. Because of their ease of use, accuracy and efficiency, the methods for displaying, reviewing and analyzing data described in this monograph can be highly useful to all who must work with computerized information and make decisions based upon it.

About the Author Robert A. Warner, MD is board-certified in both Internal Medicine and Cardiology and is currently living and working near Portland, Oregon. He received his BS degree from Union College in 1964 and his MD degree from Upstate Medical Center in 1969. He completed a residency in internal medicine at Upstate in 1972 and a fellowship in cardiology at Duke University Medical Center in 1975. He was an Eliphalet Nott Scholar at Union College and is a member of the Phi Beta Kappa, Sigma Xi and Alpha Omega Alpha honor societies. Dr. Warner was a member of the faculty of Upstate Medical Center College of Medicine from 1975 to 1998 where he rose to the rank of Full Professor of Medicine. From 1986 to 1996, he served as Chief of the Medical Service at the Syracuse VA Medical Center. From 1998 to 2002, Dr. Warner did medical research at the Duke University Clinical Research Institute in Durham, North Carolina and from 2002 to 2006 served as the Medical Director of Inovise Medical, Inc. in Portland, Oregon. Since then, he has remained active in research, continues to publish in medical and computer science journals and frequently presents his research findings at scientific meetings. Most of his current work consists of improving the accuracy of medical diagnoses and optimizing the interpretation of computer-generated data. The methods of interpretation that he has developed apply not only to biomedical data, but are also relevant to such diverse fields as engineering, the physical and social sciences, business and personal finance. Dr. Warner is the author of over 75 papers and 95 abstracts that have been published in peer-reviewed journals. He has served as consultant to many companies in the medical device and pharmaceutical industries and is the holder of four patents that are all related to the display and interpretation of biomedical data.

I am very pleased, as it is extremely helpful in this regard. Contrary to other literature assigned to my reading list, Robert Warner's book explains things clearly, in a language and format that I can understand, and that I can actually use in my day to day work. Other than that, It is a very interesting read to boot.I want to add more thoughts about this extraordinary book. It really is amazing. The author invites us to explore an assortment of proven methods to make sense out of the vast amounts of data and information that has become available to us in both our private and professional lives. The tools described here can be of huge benefit for those involved in the medical field, as well as those in predicting outcomes such as weather, earthquakes, or the stock market and such. Among several tools described, such as color coding Z scores and moving averages, the author presents something called "Stacked Frame Display". He uses the example of an on-going heart tracing (telemetry) that needs to be monitored for heart abnormalities that may be difficult to catch. The stacked frame display very ingeniously rotates the long and monotonous series of waves 90 degrees, thus causing the upright portion to face the observer. This coupled with a system of using different colors or shades can allow for easy detection of important changes that can be hard to see.Although mathematical calculations are provided for those inclined, each of the methods can be accomplished using computer spreadsheet programs, and step by step directions are included.The book ends with some useful ways to deal with false positives and negatives and such, and a very interesting conversation on the philosophy of probabilities. I found it very thought provoking, and I highly recommend the book.

The book succeeds in explaining complex concepts in very simple to understand terms which makes it a very useful book from a pra By Sceptic This book attempts to tackle the problem of how to effectively interpret and even more importantly communicate the massive amounts of information which surrounds us in any scientific field. It is written from the point of view of a clinician and medical researcher but the concepts are equally applicable to other scientific disciplines and succeeds admirably in its stated goal. I have known Dr. Warner for many years and he has the rare talent to have a bird's eye view of a field in which he is a well published researcher himself. The book succeeds in explaining complex concepts in very simple to understand terms which makes it a very useful book from a practical standpoint while still serving as a reference work for a collection.

About the Author Derl Horn is a native of Springdale, AR. He worked for Cooper Power Inc. for thirty nine years retiring in 2007 as an Industrial Engineer. He married his High School sweetheart Marilyn Buchanan Horn and they have three children, twin daughters and a son and five grandchildren. Derl served as a Marine in the 1st Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, "The Walking Dead" from 1966-1968. He was trained at the Marine Recruiting Depot in San Diego, and at Camp Pendleton, CA. He was stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC where he was deployed for five months in Cuba and ten months in Vietnam. While in Vietnam he received a Purple Heart for the injuries he received during Operation Buffalo where fifty-nine men lost their lives in one day with Derl being one of the twenty-six survivors. He has just completed writing his memoirs about his military experience.

Same with his wife. A person would never know that Derl was involved in this type of conflict. He is a true American and a true American Icon who fought for his country in spite of the poltics of socialists and communists in our country protesting. This is a must read book of his accounts of this war.

Marshall Compelling historical non-fiction book that gives you a visual of what it was like inside the battle and life of a soldier in the Vietnam war. It is told by a marine who had faith in God to bring him home and who had many moments where he knew he might not make it. I couldn't help but cry through parts of the story, experiencing and imagining how hard the conditions were and how much He had to overcome. I am so glad he trusted in the Lord and was saved to be in our lives. I know others didn't come home and I am so grateful to all the soldiers who gave their lives or sacrificed their time, as well as, their families who sacrificed to protect our freedom! There is a part in our national anthem that will forever have more meaning to me after reading this book.. "and the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air"... I could see how those words were part of his experience. I know he still grieves the loss of those marine's lives and he knows well the real sacrifice that was given. I love and am very proud and grateful to my Mom and Dad for their sacrifice and willingness to fight for freedom, as well as, their willingness to diligently work so hard to finish this book and share their story. As we grew up, I knew my Dad fought in the the war, but he did not talk much about it unless we asked. He put all that experience behind him for a time, in order to be present for our family. After he retired, he began to reconnect with soldiers he had lost touch with all those years ago and it began a journey that led to writing down his experience for his family. I am so glad it turned into a book to share with others and for us to have in order to pass on to our children. Although he is my Dad, I felt like the book was engaging and compelling and I highly recommend it!!

By Kenneth As I read Derl’s book, I felt like I was by his side with all the emotions of being in a combat zone, fighting for the lives of my fellow Marines and hoping to make it home again to my family. If you have ever wondered what goes through the mind and the experiences of being in a war zone, this book will take you there. If you served in Vietnam, then you will relate to Derl’s experiences and remember the bravery of those who gave their lives in the service of our country. Not always easy to recall these memories, but Derl and Marilyn Horn share their very personal story of how it was!

I'm a recent college graduate and my parents bought this for me as a sort of "welcome to the real world" gift. Honestly, it has been so helpful. I never realized that a lot of the things I do could be considered as "mooching" off of my friends and family. The book was helpful, funny, and I definitely recommend giving it a try.

About the Author LeRoy is a graduate of Alabama State University an HBCU in Montgomery, Alabama. He received his bachelor of science degree in business management. He started writing pieces in 2000 when his mother passed away. He tells us that if it had not been for these pieces he may not have had any peace with such a tragic loss in his life. He often finds his spirit struggling with a question his brother James left him with before their mother passed. He asked over the phone: "What if something happen to mom and you don't make it back in time? LeRoy's answer was: "I will make it man I'm not that far away" He didn't make it there in time and these writings are his way of reflecting back, thinking forward in his present moments. He does not want you to cry for him. He just wants us all to make the most of the life we live by spending time with the ones we love and some time alone thinking about what our lives really mean.

Bell The last book in the series, I would say he saved the best for last but I loved each of his books so much that I can't really say that one is better than the other. After completing both of his series, this one and Timelightenment, I am left wanting to read more by this author. LeRoy has a true gift that he chose to share with the world. I have learned to appreciate life, the little things in life that we take for granted, and to continue to go after my dreams. Those are just some of the things I've gotten out of all of his books. I can only hope that he will continue to share more with us in the future. LeRoy Flemming is truly a talented and gifted author.

Cute naturist story with likeable characters, looking forward to sequel By Tom Jim, a 16 year-old boy from the UK, goes on a vacation with his parents (or "rents" as he calls them). They just don't bother to tell him they booked two weeks at a naturist resort on a Greek island. He has no idea until they actually arrive there.Never having done anything like this Jim is horrified at the idea, and vows to stay inside his room for the entire stay. (The story never seems to adequately explain why the parents all of a sudden seem to be so interested in naturism.)After he checks into his room, everything changes when an Irish girl named Sasha, staying in the room next to his, appears at his door in just her birthday suit. She's an old hand at this naturist stuff, since she's been coming to the same resort with her rents since she was 11, five years ago.Initially, she has to put on clothes to go out and about with him, since he doesn't want to take his off, but that gradually changes.Neither one has had a real girlfriend or boyfriend before, and that is about to change. But not without some typical teenage romantic misunderstandings.I liked both of the main characters, and didn't want to see the story end. I was pleasantly surprised to see the last line of the book, which says "TO BE CONTINUED".There are some minor spelling and grammatical errors. The most serious error is on page 267 where it says: "She gripped his waste pressing her body against his as they stood looking into each others eyes." Yuck!

I did however, think that most teenage boys would not have his problems on seeing others at resort such as the one his parents took him to.

I love her outlook on everyday life. You will find yourself laughing out loud and wanting to share with others, especially Drop My Keys in a Place I Call My Own and Adventures in Retail. Very fun book. Love the cover too!

Modern day masterpiece for fellow twentysomething "spilled coffee on shirt" and "elastic waistbands do it better"-ers By Hayley Have you ever read a book that felt like it was directly speaking to you? This is that book. For me, at least. I graduated from college about 2 weeks ago. A week later was Christmas. My sweet, endearing older sister got me this book as a gift. Not sure if it was a gag, or a sincere note towards the impending doom of my post-graduate future, I accepted it with grace and added to the things I would be reading with the immense amount of free time I had in the coming weeks (the weird in-between of graduation and job seeking is a very strange, unknowing time). When I cracked open the book for the first time I became unruly excited because Nugent gives the reader a list. Not just any list at that - I wouldn't want you to think I have some sort of weird list fetish. This list is composed of yes/no questions to answer to determine whether or not this book is for you. Of these questions Nugent poses, some include "Would you rather feast on hummus or cheese than have sex with somebody who doesn't read books, drinks protein shakes, or has a goatee?" and "Does your college degree hang over your head like a rain cloud made of student loans, false hopes, and rapidly falling dreams?" and best of all: "Liz Lemon?" - I properly exclaimed "yes, yes, and YES" to these questions along with many more like some sort of crazed lunatic you'd find gnawing on her arm in the corner of a subway wearing a tyedye cut-off and pants with feathers (that's a thing, right?). Then I agreed to embark on reading this novel, and not halfway like the lukewarm relationship I have with many books where I reach 50 pages, figure I've gotten the jist, and never pick it up again. No, this book was different. This book I'd done something I so rarely do. So rarely that I may have never done it before, at least not since Harry Potter came out or I found a strange novel about Africa in my Dad's old chest of drawers: I read it in 1 night.Well, at least 160 pages deep before I fell asleep drooling on myself at 2:30 AM and woke up not so promptly the next morning/afternoon to resume where I had left off. But regardless, I digested this masterpiece in less than 24 hours, which makes me feel entitled to say I did read it in 1 night, so we are going to go with that.Nugent has a spectacular knack at saying exactly what I so often shamefully think. Like how yes, I would much rather sit at home on Friday night playing Scrabble in my flannel pajamas with the stretchy elastic waistband than dragging myself to a bar that plays EDM and having someone spill a Long Island in my hair. Similarly, how the feeling of moving to a new city is daunting and relentlessly overwhelming, but also the best way to find yourself - by getting a little lost. She reminds us that being fresh out of college can really suck. And it gets messy. But that it's also a beautiful time of growth and development. And it won't be easy, and it will be scary. But at least she's honest. A lot more honest than we get in college when people pump up or dreams and tell you that being a philosophy major is perfectly acceptable and why not take a class on ancient civilizations because surely that will come in handy when you need to find a decent paying job as the first student loan payment rolls in.No, I am not bitter.Anyway, I am not the type to write reviews. Nor am I the type to stay up all night reading a novel. But this book is different, and I would recommend it to anyone who is in the somewhat same state of life as me. Or anyone really. Do yourself a favor and just read something good, like this. I half wrote this too hoping Nugent would read it herself and think, "Hey, let's be friends". Because she's really cool, and I want to be her friend. And you will too after you read this.Also, Alida, if you read this will you please write more? I found myself facing literal depression when the book was over. Okay, maybe that was dramatic, but I did feel sad when it was over. I can only hope that you continue writing and that I will have the pleasure of reading it.In short, fellow reviewers, read this book. You won't regret it.

Too whiny to be funny By Sam E I found this book so hard to read, but forced myself to sit through 3/4 of it, since a friend had recommended it.The good: Alida Nugent is a good, funny writer, with a strong voice, who will undoubtedly write great pieces as she continues to develop her talent. Her admissions of personal embarrassments are all the funnier bc she knows and you know that they're typical of many twentysomethings in her position.The bad: Scattered moments of self-deprecation and we-all-do-it candor are great, but a book full of stories of self-loathing and shame just comes of as whiny. It's like being forced to sit through a self-pitying conversation with that friend who (albeit funny) always feels herself to be the victim of the world. Luckily, while you have to smile and bite your tongue with friends (or be strong and tell them to snap out of it), you can just put down this book and walk away.

Lynn A. Fountain, CGMA, CRMA, MBA has over 35 years of experience in the business profession, which includes public and industry accounting and over 20 years within internal and external auditing combined. She is a nationally recognized trainer and speaker and also a published author of both a personal book and professional books. Ms. Fountain is a subject matter expert and specializes in internal audit, Sarbanes-Oxley, Enterprise Risk Management, fraud, governance, ethics, and compliance. Ms. Fountain has held two Chief Audit Executive positions for international companies. She has also been instrumental in the establishment of ERM, Sarbanes-Oxley, and governance frameworks. Ms. Fountain obtained her BSBA from Pittsburg State University and her MBA from Washburn University in Kansas. She also holds her certificate in Certified Public Accountancy.

I could tell that there was no chronological order to it, and there were some mistakes in spelling, and punctuation. I was truly inspired by the writing and at some points thought I was reading about myself. These poems are raw, and written from the heart with great philosophy as well.

I was fascinated by the idea of giving back the power to the people in our current broken democracy. The themes set the platform for a discussion on changing the way our current political system works. Highly recommend it.

The author emphasizes the power of inquiry into our actions as humans and more specifically, as Christians. It challenges us to see things with a fresh eye. There are several very important questions that Christians must answer. I have answered one for myself, the embrace of poverty is not the will of God but the snare of the Devil. To the end, it leaves you want for more. Well, if you are like me, searching the deeper meaning of life in Christ while journeying on earth.
