Night Flying weaves a journey of life-changing choices with an intimate narrative of love and hope. Writing in her diary, Mae questions God as she and her husband receive heartbreaking news about her pregnancy, and agonize over the decisions they face. Needing time away to think, she visits her childhood home and reconnects with Will, a deaf friend who taught her to sign when they were young. After her visit, Mae and Will continue a written exchange in which she confides her despair, while Will shares his own struggle to honor the wishes of his dying father, and reconcile his mother's reluctance to let go. The story of Night Flying will stay with, and deeply touch, anyone who has faced these difficult choices.

Review "Night Flying defies classification - poem, novella, epistolary meditation - while engaging many literary modes...touching, as it does so, upon religious heritage, the flawed human flesh, childhood hopes, death's certainty, the limits of language and truths to be apprehended only in silence. Night Flying is, above all else, a touching evocation of physical and spiritual suffering and love." - Tony Connor, poet, playwright, author of Things Unsaid and The Empty Air, and Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature
From the Author Many thanks to Meg Cowen, author of If Tigers Do Not Come and Elastic Shriek Machine, for this review:"Mlozanowski has done something a bit out of the ordinary here: she's linked together a series of prose poems, disguised as personal letters that carefully provoke us to examine our own complicated ideas regarding when, if ever, it is our place to choose where life begins and ends. As the central theme of this poetry collection, the subject is daunting, but what makes it easily accessible is the author's ability to approach two difficult situations - a woman struggling with the decision of whether or not to carry her pregnancy to term when she learns her unborn child has severe physical handicaps; a son questioning his decision to help his terminally ill father end his own life. These childhood friends, Mae and Will, reconnect over time and distance through a series of epistolary letters. Here, in these letters, is where the author's poetic craft comes into play. Her metaphors are deeply rooted in the natural world. Mae imagines her child as a caught fish eager to slip from her hands back into the river; she imagines clusters of pearls where feet and hands will never grow. The imagery within Will's narrative is primarily related to flight and aviation. He prepares himself for the death of his father, a retired pilot, by likening his imminent passing to one final flight they embark on together. His ambivalence over the ghost moth trapped in his parents' garage mirrors his emotional struggle with his father's illness - he resigns himself to the fact that it will die whether he keeps it close or sets it free. This poetry collection could act as a discourse in ethics; pro-life and pro-choice views are both presented here, openly and without agenda. The author leaves the reader to decide (or remain indecisive) as to what they would do in Mae or Will's situation. And Mae's ultimate choice is testament to the idea that one can never truly know how they will act until they're completely absorbed in a difficult situation - and that a change of heart is always possible. Night Flying is a thoughtful and affecting read."
