From his experiences in the military, his art and writing, his days in San Diego, there was a connection I've not felt with other writers. Solid and beautiful prose. Great Blue Heron strikes home. Highly recommended.

Malone An honest distillation of one man's life experience, from the war poems to the everyday reveries to the final two elegies. I don't know if Eret's title is meant to link with Samuel Beckett's play Footfalls, but Beckett was preoccupied with life and death, and there is a parallel sensibility in this book. Recommended!

The public wars include the Vietnam War and World War II. A battle with cancer, backyard bird squabbles, and other life skirmishes are a few of the private wars. These are fine poems from a true witness.
