About the Author Florian Weinhold studied for his PhD in Russian Cinema and Cultural Studies under the sagacious supervision of Professor Stephen Hutchings at The University of Manchester, UK. His PhD received a scholarship from the Arts & Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and their trust was repaid, when it received a first class in 2012. Previously, Florian had studied for an M.A. in Russian Studies at The Manchester University, which also gave him a full scholarship, well-earned with a 'distinction' in 2005. In 2001, Florian's B.A. (Hons.) Linguistics and Russian received a 'first degree' and 'distinction in spoken Russian'

And it does so not only in terms of film genre but also as a philosophical or politico-cultural criticism of our times. Laudable and spot on!The comparative analysis of the films Die Hard and Brother is splendid, eye-opening and should be read by film lovers, scenarists, students and teachers of film alike. Well written, entertaining... well done!The chapters on Genre and Representation are methodologically sound and ground breaking in their combination of tools for analysis and interpretation.Perhaps not everything mentioned in them is new but was distilled from so many various sources that, particularly as a concise methodology for students and their teachers, they give a clear approach to film understanding and analysis.Verdict - excellent, timely, thought provoking, very helpful and, last but not least, well written and entertaining.This book will not be able to escape attention in various fields of academia and among film lovers.
