About the Author Miyamoto Naoki was born December 9, 1934. He was a professional Go player. Miyamoto became a professional in 1950 for the Kansai Ki-in. He was promoted to 9 dan in 1969. He is famous for the books he has written, Oyama Kunio, Ushinohama Satsuo and Matsumura Osamu are his disciples. He died on October 26, 2012.

Their problem is that they have become slaves to form, without understanding the spirit behind the form By James Kenney A truly incredible book for those players "stuck" at the 6- or 7-kyu level. This is NOT a book for beginners. It makes no attempt to explain the rules of the game, and assumes a familiarity with Go that is already impressive. Simply written (and well translated), this book provides a number of rules in each chapter that are easy to understand, and then illustrates them with explanations and examples, complete with carefully conceived diagrams."Fundamentals should be interpreted, not as something narrow like joseki, but in a broad sense, as one's whole approach to the game...People often lament, 'I followed the book but I still lost'. Their problem is that they have become slaves to form, without understanding the spirit behind the form."If you are serious about Go, this is a wonderful book. I recommend it unequivocally.
