Craig James Johnston has been involved with technology since his high school days at Glenwood High in Durban, South Africa, when his school was given some Apple ][ Europluses. From that moment, technology captivated him, and he has owned, supported, evangelized, and written about it.
Craig has been involved in designing and supporting large-scale enterprise networks with integrated email and directory services since 1989. He has held many different IT-related positions in his career, ranging from sales support engineer to mobile architect for a 40,000-smartphone infrastructure at a large bank.
In addition to designing and supporting mobile computing environments, Craig cohosts the CrackBerry.com podcast as well as guest hosting on other podcasts, including iPhone and iPad Live podcasts. You can see Craig’s previously published work in his books Professional BlackBerry, My iMovie, and many books in the My series covering devices by BlackBerry, Palm, HTC, Motorola, Samsung, and Google.
Craig also enjoys high-horsepower, high-speed vehicles and tries very hard to keep to the speed limit while driving them.
Originally from Durban, South Africa, Craig has lived in the United Kingdom, the San Francisco Bay Area, and New Jersey, where he now lives with his wife, Karen, and a couple of cats.

Straightforward and helpful introduction and advice on how to get the most out of your Apple Watch By shane Hastie A straightforward, well written and easily readable introduction to using your Apple Watch.From the absolute basics of setting up your watch for the first time to configuring a wide range of apps for the best effect the author takes the reader by the hand and leads them through getting the most out of the varied capabilities of the watch.A nice bonus is the last chapter where the author suggests a number of 3rd party apps which work well on the Watch and explains how to get the most out of them.

Author Craig James Johnston, has done an outstanding job of writing a book that allows you to become familiar with the external features of the Apple Watch and the basics of getting started.Author Johnston, begins by showing you how to customize your Apple Watch to suit your needs. Then, the author covers how to send and receive messages, read and act upon emails, and use the phone from your Watch. He continues by discussing how to use Siri, your iPhone and Apple Watch's personal digital assistant, to help you call people, set reminders, and generally help you use your watch more efficiently. Then, the author discusses how to use the Maps app on your Apple Watch to find places around you and navigate using turn-by-turn directions. He then describes how to use the Music app on your Watch to control music playback on your iPhone and directly from your Watch. Next, the author explores how to use Apple Pay from your Watch. He continues by showing you how your Watch keeps track of your activity and helps you stay healthy. Then, the author discusses how to find apps for your Watch, install them, and manage them. He then covers other useful Watch apps not yet covered in this book. I expressed interest in another Que book and the publisher sent me a bunch of books in the same box. That said, I was curious; just didn't follow along with an actual Apple Watch.First, I'm really impressed that the publisher put out two editions in six months. The book began by explaining what each button and feature on the watch does. The book was full of helpful tips.The screenshots of both the watch and iPhone were very clear. As was the explanation about handoffs between the two. I also liked that the book covers what you can do with the watch when your phone isn't with you.There were a couple of “bugs” in the book. Page 116 talks about what you can do with your iMac. This was obviously a typo for Mac and was correct when used a bit later. And page 20 and 34 both have a sidebar “What are complications” which are pretty much the same. But nothing that got in the way of readability or learning. I also would have liked chapter 1 to be split up until multiple chapters. At 80 pages, it is a third of the book!This book was rich in information and easy to read. I got a good feel for how the watch works. And was reminded why I don't want a smart watch. But that's clearly not the books's fault. I didn't want one before I got the book. I did learn from the book and am happy about that.
