Vick Michelle Hartman’s work is genuine, honest, and quite pointed, getting to the heart of every issue or experience she includes in her poetry. "Irony and Irreverence" is a great follow up to her first collection titled "Disenchanted and Disgruntled." Moreover, Irony and Irreverence maintains that sardonic edge that Hartman so masterfully deploys, but this time it goes a little deeper into the human or situation's condition, whichever the case may be.This is not your typical poetry. For that, Hartman should be thanked. It’s unconventional wisdom about conventional life. No one and no-thing is “safe,” but in a playful way that gnaws at the truth. Hartman knows how to articulate any given situation, event, and person with hearty wit and a semblance of humility. This book will make you laugh and make you think. Hell, it may even make you mad, but it never ceases to entertain, it’s never boring, it always occupies its reader with every line. Moreover, she’s not afraid to cross barriers with discussions normally considered taboo. She can jump from feminism to Zane Grey novels, turn around and wax ironically about religion and broken relationships, and then stomp her foot about social injustices; sometimes in the same poem.If you have not encounter a Hartman verse, then you are truly missing out on something special. There are not too many poets out there who are able to speak volumes in so few verses and paint an image so firm in just a few lines. Get a copy of this work and find out for yourself. Trust me, you will not be disappointed.
