The Walt's People series is an oral history of all things Disney, as told by the artists, animators, designers, engineers, and executives who made it happen, from the 1920s through the present.
Walt’s People: Volume 13 features appearances by Virginia Davis, Reg Massie, George Bakes, Milt Neil, Al Dempster, Joe Grant, Woolie Reitherman, Becky and Carla Fallberg, Jean Erwin, Jules Engel, Fred Kopietz, Donald Duckwall, George Sherman, Floyd Gottfredson, Richard Todd, Roy E. Among the hundreds of stories in this volume:
- Pixar's PETE DOCTER, the Oscar-winning director of Up and Monsters, Inc., examines the forgotten career of John Sibley, Disney's "Tenth Old Man", whose animations still dazzle today.
- FESS PARKER relates how a bit part in the classic 1950s giant ant monster movie Them! netted him the role of Disney's Davy Crockett.
- DON IWERKS, son of Walt's first partner Ub Iwerks, chats with Michael Broggie, son of Walt's first Imagineer, Roger Broggie, about their respective careers following in the footsteps of their fathers.
- VIRGINIA DAVIS recalls her role as "Alice" in Walt Disney's Alice Comedies, a series of short films from the early 1920s that predated Mickey Mouse and were equally as important as Mickey in putting Walt on his path to success.
The entertaining, informative stories in every volume of Walt's People will please both Disney scholars and eager fans alike.

I Wish I Could Give Higher Than Five Stars To This Book By Jim Korkis Didier Ghez is an internationally acknowledged and respected Disney Historian whose many contributions have greatly enriched the preserving and sharing of information about the history of Disney, both the man and the company. At nearly 600 pages, this book would be a bargain at twice the price as it is packed with uncensored, unvarnished first hand stories that have never been previously told and give new perspective. I have several hundred books in my personal Disney book collection but the Walt's People series has a prominent shelf all its own because I frequently go to them not only for research but just to re-read an interview because they are so entertaining and informative. You don't need to be a Disney expert to enjoy this book or the rest in the series. Didier is careful to provide introductory material before each interview as well as a plethora of footnotes to explain, embellish or correct things that the person has said. I have contributed to the series since the first volume and I know that it is a "labor of love" for Didier. Any profit is immediately re-invested in the next volume. Prominent writers are proudly involved with this series because of Didier's great personal integrity and gentle kindness and because they want to support his desire to get this material in print not only to share with current Disney fans but with future researchers before it is lost forever. Buy a copy of this book to help speed the publication of the next always entertaining, always informative, always surprising addition to the series. I wish it were possible to give this book higher than a "5" rating. If I could, I would write two reviews so it would have a "10".

This one is huge and they seem to be increasing in size as they increase in volume number, which is a great sign for armchair Disney historians. Didier continues to uncover more untold history for all of us diehard Disney fans wanting to know more about the people behind the magic. If you've read Disney history books in the past but haven't picked up a Walt's People book, you're missing out on a treasure trove of stories told first hand from the people that were there. You can read/hear about key moments in Disney history from different employees points of view, giving you more of full picture of what happened without any sugar coating. Many of the interviews were source material for other published Disney history books and Disney biographies and you get to read them here unfiltered. Also the series doesn't not have to be read in order, so you can start right off with volume 13 and work your way backwards or select the volumes with the artists that interest you most to start. You'll be hooked after you read one volume. I can't tell people enough how much my Disney knowledge has increased with this series and anxiously await the next volume. Thanks for creating the book series Didier!

This book offers a different perspective than one would find in official authorized works about Walt. It is a collection of interviews of several of the (many) people who worked for him. What I liked most, is the candor of the people being interviewed. They felt free not to "sugar-coat" any of their answers, giving very truthful responses. To think that most of the people interviewed are no longer living, makes me appreciate the work of the various interviewers, capturing all of this valuable insight, that would have otherwise been lost. I enjoyed this book very much, and will be buying the other two in the series.
