It has been the sensational highs and desperate lows that have defined my life up to this point. Anxiety, and a feeling of impending doom plagued my adolescence; I was clueless when it came to happiness, friendship, intimacy, and love. Then, at twenty-three years old, I experienced the first of the many reversals of fortune that were to come my way and suddenly found myself living in South Beach and exploring life in the best way possible—without a budget! The lap of luxury suited me well indeed… But when a moment of perfect beauty roused my true dreams, I once again found myself struggling to avoid a downfall of tragic proportion. The Tides of Vanity may be touted as a satirical and provocative memoir that features heavy doses of drugs, sex, vanity, a sordid cast of Miami and LA scenesters, and sultry nights being romanced by Anderson Cooper—and yes, all those saucy crumpets are there, thankfully! But at its heart this is a real story about choices, the importance of the present moment, the ups and downs of friendship, and the true meaning of romance… “Smooth, cool, and cinematic!” Christopher Ciccone Author of New York Times bestseller Life With my Sister Madonna “Everyone will be talking about this book! Tides of Vanity is mouthwateringly controversial and one of the most entertaining narratives to come along in years… a new style of book that is bound to be copied by others in less worthy forms.” Wehoconfidential “A perceptive and hilarious ride into the hills of Beverly, and beyond. Beware: the turns are fast and wild! But you won’t want it to end.” Kenny Solms Emmy award winning writer/creator of The Carol Burnett Show, and writer for Joan Rivers “Rich and Vain—what’s not to love! And this bitch actually pulls it off! The story he tells is absurdly funny and profoundly meaningful. A real winner! Chi Chi La Rue International personality, writer, performer

Patrick Baugh I can't even.Bryan Singer and Anderson Cooper should sue for defamation of character. The author reviewed his own book here and gave himself 5 stars. Then his friends chimed in with their own 5 star reviews (and I'm surprised he has friends, considering he bad-mouthed every single character he mentioned in this book).Especially loved the author's photo - a half-dollar sized, blurry photo of what looks to be a Asian man, while the author claims to be a blonde Jewish kid.If this was meant as satire, it failed. If this was meant to be cathartic, it failed. The author appears to be the shallowest of the shallow, a money-lusting, social-climbing user who hates everyone and everything, including himself. He has contempt for everyone around him.I now need to go take a Silkwood shower to get the stench of the pages off of me.And, sadly, the author does seem to know how to write. Unfortunately, his skill was used to vanity publish this steaming pile.

The author, Jay Quint, doesn't bash Anderson Cooper, but instead gives a frank account of his experience with him. It's a good read, laced with tons of dry situational humour. Quint's writing is unique in style. I would compare it to that of Brett Easton Ellis (Less Than Zero, Rules of Attraction, among others), whom I love, and with a huge dollop of Chelsea Handler-esque comedy on top.I recommend this book for those who want to laugh and know how to let loose, and have a good time.
