Replenishment Triggers: Setting Systems for Make to Stock, Make to Order & Assemble to Order, by Snaun Snapp

From the Author The terms make to order and make to stock roll easily off of people's tongues regardless of their knowledge of other supply chain terms. Many executives speak about "moving to a make to order environment." These terms are specific types of manufacturing environments. They are embedded in almost all supply planning applications ranging from the most basic ERP to the most sophisticated advanced planning system. However, each manufacturing environment leads to a number of implications, implications that are most often not completely understood. Requirements strategies are what control what drives the replenishment of supply in systems. In most cases, the requirement strategies control whether the forecast or the sales order triggers replenishment. This book cuts down the amount of time that is required for people in companies to understand the relationship between manufacturing environments (the business) and requirements strategies (the technology setting in the supply planning application).

  • By reading this book you will learn:
  • What are the major manufacturing environments and what determines which manufacturing environment a company follows?
  • How do the different manufacturing environments impact how inventory is carried?
  • How are the different manufacturing environments configured in software?
  • What is mass customization, and how accurate is useful is this concept in real life?
  • What is the interaction between variant configuration and the manufacturing environment and the bill of materials?

From the Inside Flap Chapter 1: Introduction Chapter 2: The Different Manufacturing Environments Chapter 3: Triggering Replenishment Chapter 4: Requirements Strategies Chapter 5: The Make to Order Illusion Chapter 6: The Limitations to the Concept of Mass Customization Chapter 7: Forecast Consumption Chapter 8: Variant Configuration in SAP ERP Chapter 9: Conclusion

From the Back Cover The Book's OrientationThe type and quality of information provided by various entities is a touchy subject because, as I point out in this book, usually this information is intended more to improve the condition of the information provider than the receiver. Not many authors are interested in courting controversy, and this is why I believe no book like this has yet been written. Certainly, other books that describe different dimensions of the problem of risk management are also good to read. However, managing a project's risk is about more than the tactical elements of how to estimate risk. Reducing the risk of software implementations and increasing the probability of success means doing some nonconformist thinking. I provide all the information in this book; as the reader all you have to do is consider the logic of what I have written and be open to the message. If you do that, you will be far ahead of your counterparts who are not open to different thinking and are simply following the consensus viewpoint.A Book Based in RealityThe book provides many examples from real life project experiences, the emphasis being on the reality of ERP projects.Interconnected to Web InformationIn order the keep the book at a manageable and easily readable length, the book also provides numerous links out to the SCM Focus site, where supporting articles allow readers to get into more detail on topics that interest them.

"Luck, like a bus, always wins. Right place, right time. Location, Location, Location. It is always better to be lucky than good. All clichés. All retread. All true. Being good without luck is like being #1 on the upgrade list as your jet’s nose wheel lifts from the runway, you are in 27E without a paddle." In my wildest dream, I never imagined myself selling to Steve Jobs. From the frozen streets of Winnipeg, Manitoba selling pork sausage and back bacon to dealing in IP theory with the master, up close and very personal. I was there. This is my story. Never before told anecdotes capture Steve grappling with intellectual property issues which matter to all of us, today more than ever. A fresh perspective on Steve Jobs from a puke immigrant.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. What the hell does Steve Jobs know about washing clothes and clothes washers? By Dirk van Nouhuys This short book or essay was written by a long-time Silicon Valley professional who has toiled as a writer and a sales rep. In full disclosure, he is acquaintance of mine of many years. The book is a good way to get a feel for attitudes people have towards work, sales, management, and star figures in Silicon Valley from an enthusiastic perspective. The overt content of the book is mainly about three things: the author (The book is about 40% over before there are more than passing remarks about Steve Jobs), about Jobs himself from a mainly anecdotal point of view, and about the craft of sales rep. A subtext about how people evaluate one another and establish esteem runs through it.His image of his audience is not always consistent. On the one hand he writes as if he were explaining Silicon Valley culture to the uninitiate:"Sit in any meeting in any conference room in the Valley. I challenge you to fine more than two of seven participants who were born in the Untied States. We are a Valley of immigrants."(Though many immigrants work there, I find this estimate something of an exaggeration.)On the other hand he frequently names without explanation people and concepts that are locally famous but far from universally familiar: "C-level" (local slang for corporate executive)" "NeXT", (an unsuccessful computer company that Steve Jobs headed for a while) "J2ME" (a layer of software that lets a given program run on several devices), "John Warnock" (an inventor of display software and in the C-level of Adobe). The author is and portrays himself as a French Canadian working-class immigrant. He graduated in French form the University of San Diego and has translated French literary works. He holds and MBA from Sana Clara and a JD, but has not practiced law. He was the sales rep from Adobe to NeXT and has often negotiated intellectual property rights. His style is open, engaging, chatty, and energetic like a friend addressing a small group of companions. His openness extends to confession, almost to self-abnegation"To the best of my knowledge everything I am about to relate here is true. I was, at times, inebriated. I did not live through my life with the idea of recording it. Keep that in mind as you are either being cruel fair or both."The idea of heroism is important. He modestly describes himself as not a hero and explicitly seeks at times the reader's esteem. But he has lots of heroes, most of them managers of hardware or software development. The only other one you are likely to have heard of is Kurt Vonnegut. Of course, Steve jobs most of all.He reports his negotiations with Jobs over intellectual property rights as someone might report negotiating the sale of baseball bats to Hank Aaron. But Jobs is a controversial figure. Many admire him as a great CEO and technical innovator. Others, I among them, see him as some one who promoted an abusive and over-driven work environment, some one who improved the fortunes of Apple computer and affected the style of marketing and of industrial design of smart phones, but had no long-term technical or broad social effect. For example, you sometimes hear him credited with making the smart phone popular or even with inventing it, but we would be looking at smart phones if he had spent his energies in other fields. The first thing that could be called a smart phone was marketed by Bell South in 1994, and Ericsson and Palm marketed basic smart phones at the beginning of the century. The idea was on a role. The smart phone in our hand might look somewhat different, and Apple might have disappeared as a company if not for Jobs, but from my perspective that is not so consequential as to make him a heroic figure.Bedard catches this difference of perspective neatly in an exchange with his wife:"I remember telling Caroline that we had to get a front-loading washer, because Steve thought they were cool....As Caroline has pointed out for years since, what the hell does Steve Jobs know about washing clothes and clothes washers?"The later part of the book provides advice about how to work as a sales rep in Silicon Valley and much of it thrusts toward being open and natural with your clients as he is with his reader in this book.

There are some parts that are a bit tricky to decipher the meaning of the sentences, and it's not eye candy with brilliantly constructed sentences. The reason for this is that it's primarily a transcript from one of the most recent teleconferences he does with other brilliant writers. In that case it tends to have some stuff that doesn't really need to be in there. However, the valuable stuff in there is brilliant. It's simple and somewhat common sense once you learn about it. But the power it can give to your opening act can elevate your stories to a whole new level and you will instantly be able to apply these skills to any of your future structuring sessions.

Good Guidance on Locking Protagonists into the Central Conflict By Mitch This booklet provides some excellent advice for the second mini-movie in Chris Soth's story structure. What I especially appreciate is the author's more flexible definition of the second Minnie-movie than in his course for ScreenwritingU.The one distraction is the rather poor editing. There is more than the occasional typographical error. For readers who want more detail on mini-movie two in particular and Chris Soth's method in general, this book is strongly recommended.

Sometimes you have to let it sink in, but what Chris says makes sense. This is more discussion than a formalized book format. And Chris lays out how to lock your hero in. Can't wait to read Mini-Moive Three

In a discourse on 22nd April, 1998, in the hills of Kodaikanal, Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba made a revelation about an aspect of God. “The photographer asks you to be ready when he snaps your picture and he gives you time to ready yourself. But, the Divine Cameraman will not give you any notice. You should always be ready to meet the situation. If you engage yourself in bhajan and daivachintanam (thinking of God) – keerthanam and smaranam (singing and remembrance) – you will not be caught unawares.” The Divine Cameraman wants us to appreciate and love His uncertainty. The prerequisite for seeking the Lord who is ever compassionate is to be ever ready and that is something that the author realized as he graduated from Swami’s educational wing into His service wing. One has to be alert always, because things can ‘click’ at any time; there can be a ‘flash’ of inspiration during any hour of the day and though situations appear to have been captured in a ‘negative’ way, they can quickly be ‘developed’ into the ‘positive’ to fill one with beautiful memories. It was an honour, a privilege, and a boon from the highest heavens in fact, that Aravind got the chance to be His cameraman for a few years. However, that did not reverse the roles with respect to readiness. Aravind had to be alert at all times and be ready to “meet the situation” as Swami puts it. He confesses that he has not been alert all the while, but whenever he was alert and sincere, an experience with the Divine unfolded. This book is a collection of such moments – moments that arose at the most unexpected times and in the most beautiful ways to assure him that his Beloved Bhagawan always has him in His sight.

When Hugh Bancroft,Jr., family owner of The Wall Street Journal, died, he left his wife, Jackie Bancroft, one of the wealthiest women in America. After she built the Spencer Theater in Ruidoso, New Mexico, and paid twenty-three million in cash for it, she married her gay interior decorator, Ron Morgan, for the last fling of her life. Glen Aaron, author, was the lawyer for for Morgan and had been so for many years through multiple legal problems. As Aaron came to know Jackie, they became fast friends and she often used him as consigliore and to double check what her vast array of trust lawyers were telling her. On an extended world cruise, Jackie became suspiciously and seriously ill. It became Aaron's duty to retrieve her from the cruise trip in the middle of the southern Atlantic and get her to health care in the U.S., where she ultimately died. Her death precipitated numerous lawsuits from her heirs and Morgan, himself, who had manipulated a position of heirship. This five year intrigue ultimately led the author, Glen Aaron, to federal prison on a technicality, a path he would never have anticipated. That path evolved into The Prison Trilogy, and The Ronnie Lee and Jackie Bancroft Spencer Morgan Story is the beginning.

9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Watching Drama from an Unsafe Distance By T. I. Parks When author-attorney Glen Aaron first met the unlikely set of characters he depicts in this beguiling book, little did he know that they were destined eventually to crash and burn and --to an extent-- take him with them. Here is a character-driven story whose major players seem so dramatic that they could be fiction. But real they are, with real-life personalities and real situations that make for a most compelling read. The story is told with the calculated pace and measured observation that only an attentive attorney like Aaron could pull off, as we watch one of the wealthiest women in America in effect victimize herself and everybody around her in a series of decisions that embroil her in controversy, personality clashes, tales of greed, self-indulgence and --sadly but inevitably-- a lonely and agonizing death at sea, abandoned by everything and everybody she had held close. Strangely, by the end of this well-written story, you feel detached from these characters, because they were in effect detached from anything remotely resembling compassion, caring, and love. They lived to themselves, and they in the end were left to themselves. As comedy star and accomplished actress Lily Tomlin said, "If love is the answer, could you rephrase the question?"

The Necromancer's Guide to Modern Life is a satirical work that looks at life, death, family, love, religion, justice, fashion, and existence in this modern world through the lens of people who exist beyond mortality. The Necromancer's Guide to Modern Life, by Phinneas Crow

From the Back Cover The Necromancer's Guide to Modern Life is the answer to all of your worldly woes...On Mathematics:"2+2=4 is what necromancers call the Idiot Formula. Anyone who believes it, anyone who thinks it is true, anyone who says it, and anyone who uses it as an argument is an idiot. 2+2=4 should be re-purposed as the new Sign of the Beast."On Fashion:"If you walk around wearing a long, dark robe with a deep cowl you will look like an ass."On Parenting:"One of the big issues with having children around your depraved pursuits is that kids talk. They pick up things at home and then they take them out into the world. If they arrive at show and tell with a mutated stillborn fetus in a jar of formaldehyde, child services will be the least of your problems."On the Word of God:"The beauty of the church - especially the modern church - is that it is really not much different from a book club. It is just an unimaginative book club that usually only uses one book. Actually, many of the same texts that you will be exposed to in any churchgoing career will do nothing but aid you in your necromancy practice..."

About the Author Finding the current collegiate system to be too staid and unrefined to recognize his genius, Dr. Phinneas Crow bestowed himself with a Doctorate in the Necromantic Arts and a MS in Demonic Diplomacy. His experience with death began at a young age when he returned his hamster, Mr. Tiberius Quincy Goopers, from the grave. Though Tiberius would later be beheaded for his role in the Great Skittles Inquiry of 1994, Dr. Crow has gone on to successfully care for many undead creatures both great and small, including Gimpy the zombie giraffe and a Narwhal who chooses to remain nameless to protect its anonymity.Dr. Crow currently works at the UDN as a translator and purveyor of human pelts.

By Amazon Customer This is more of a satirically written book interspersed with deep insights into humanity and the absurdity of modern life. This is not a book that teaches you how to become a Necromancer, but the extreme hilarity will keep you happily reading until the end!Not at all what I expected, but I'm extremely happy I discovered it!Highly recommended!

The Thinking Poker Diaries are a series of great trip reports combined with a look at how a high level player critically analyses various tourney situations. In my experience, it is hard to find well written informative poker content, so I really enjoyed this series, and am waiting for more.
