About the Author Jeff Duncan is a Professor Emeritus of English at Eastern Michigan University, "emeritus" meaning he is retired, but he is not retiring. He is also the long-time Playwright-in-Residence at Wild Swan Theater in Ann Arbor. He has written several other books of various sorts: literary criticism, two composition textbooks, a memoir, a memoir that he co-wrote with a World War II vet, the libretto for an opera, and a chapbook, plus over 30 plays for kids and grownups that have been produced all around Michigan. Aside from the libretto and lyrics for musicals, poetry is his most recent venture, and adventure, in words.

I only knew of Errol Morris from his great Oscar-winning Fog of War, and it's fascinating to find out how he obsessed over psychopaths and serial killers and such, decades before these became staples of reality television in the culture. Being ahead of his times made his personal and professional life chaotic and crazy, and he's remarkably frank about his own dark sides, mainly because of this gifted interviewer, Brin-Jonathan Butler. I read Butler's interview here with Mike Tyson--Butler has a special talent for making a visit with extraordinary people at the far edge of mainstream feel intimate and shocking at the same time. Amazon should use Butler more. This interview was a great, surprising ride--wild and rich. And chilling. Loved it.

Hartman The thing I appreciate most about Errol Morris is his ability to empathize and reserve judgment and not come off like a weenie. I adore this man, so naturally I found the interview and compelling on a number of different levels. Even if you are not a fan of his films, he's still a fascinating mind.

He loves Alabama history, particularly little-known personal stories. This book satisfied him and he wants to get the next one she wrote. His only sigh was that the stories were short and written as if for children (young teens). It doesn't diminish his enjoyment of the book, and we know it was written by a retired teacher (from reader her profile). We will buy the next one.

However, I certainly wish the author would have included a map for the reader to reference. Not everyone has lived in Alabama all their lives and we need a little help.

Alabama Footprints: Exploration -Needs A Lot of Work By Big D Poorly written if one one can say "written" at all....Reads as a loosely put together recitation of facts and semi-interesting stories...No continuity, no perspective, no story line, just a loose repitition of facts and stories, many of which are nondescript...Some are good, some very good, but they are few and far between.As other reviewers have noted, maps would have been a great help and might have put these "facts" and "stories" in some sort of order, at least an idea of where they took place.One can only hope the remaining books in this series on Alabama will be better.Not sure Alabama deserves better, but the readers of these books, especially those who pay for them, certainly deserve better.
