"In Piccolo's poems we meet a Sicily latent in the country of the tourist guides and the history books, but it was Piccolo far more than, say, his cousin Lampedusa, who was destined to draw out the latencies, read the signatures, crack the code....These brilliant translations will serve to introduce a whole new sensibility to Anglo-American readers."--Anthony Burgess

"Faithfulness, a loving adherence, a communion with and an entering into the spirit of the original are what we look for in a translation. We find these qualities abundantly in this rendering of Lucio Piccolo's poetry by Brian Swarm and Ruth Feldman. And we find yet more: a welcome clarification, for though Piccolo's poetry--one that tries to capture in a subtle web the atmosphere of a bygone world--is not obscure or oblique, yet, like all significant poetry, it is here and there open to a number of interpretations. Swann's and Feldman's translation, or interpretation, seems to me always felicitous and intelligent."--Arturo Vivante

and I Believe, by Jodie Richard-Bohman

Review "Fantastic novel...engages you from the first page with relatable characters and keeps you engrossed throughout as they deal with relationships, love, loss, and most importantly, hope. Written with such detail, the story comes to life as you turn each page, easily visualizing each interaction between these likeable & realistic characters. Such an emotional roller coaster ride, having you laugh throughout and then cry, before discovering a beautiful finale."  - Melisa, Troy, Ohio

From the Author I started writing this when I was pregnant with my youngest daughter in 2004.  I have never taken any writing classes, and to be honest, didn't really like English class when I was in school.  But I have always had a creative imagination, and I finally decided to put those thoughts on paper.  My father-in-law, Fred Bohman's battle with pancreatic cancer is what pushed me to write what I wrote.  While I never had the chance to meet him, for he passed away before I married his son, I still wanted to write something to honor him.   The story takes place in the small town of Versailles.  Being a first time writer, it was easy for me to write about surroundings I'm familiar with.  Since I have never lived anywhere but Versailles, it was obvious to choose it as the town for my book.  I also wanted to acknowledge how great our community and surrounding communities are when it comes to pulling together in hard times and tragedy.   The storyline itself is made up as are all the characters except for one and that is Holly McEldowney.   Holly is a really good friend of mine who, at the young age of 38, was diagnosed with colon cancer.  Her fight at beating the odds against cancer was something I wanted to share. Plus, during her battle, her many updates on Care Pages opened my eyes to the hell a person with cancer goes through, and I wanted to relay this message to my readers.   While the story isn't real, cancer is, and unfortunately, I know way too many people who have fought it, are currently fighting it, or have lost their battle to it.  This book is dedicated to all of them.

About the Author I reside with my family in Versailles, Ohio.  Versailles is a small rural town in the Southwest part of Ohio.  I am the Superintendent's Secretary at Versailles Schools, where I have worked for sixteen years.

I cried. I was thoroughly entertained. A wonderful book that demonstrates that sometimes life happens and it takes faith, hope and love to make it though the good and the bad and all in between. Demonstrates what all family and friend support should be. The thoughts, feelings, and reactions of characters are down to earth and real. That's it! This book may be a fictional novel, but it is real. Written as if you are listening to the author tell a personal story over brunch, it will keep you turning the page to the end with each new development and all its surprises.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. I LOVED this book and could not put it down By LyndaY I LOVED this book and could not put it down. It was a very relatable story that could happen to anyone. All of the characters were described in great detail as well as the events. I loved how the main character became such a strong woman and handled everything that was handed to her. The book captures you right from the beginning and doesn't take 60-70 pages to get into it. This is just a really good story all the way through. For a first time author, Jodie did an amazing job.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. so I will only say it is an excellent read that pulls you in from the beginning By Pamela I became a fan of Jodie Bohman after reading her warm and touching first time novel, "and I Believe". It is a book which could be spoiled for the reader if too many details are given, so I will only say it is an excellent read that pulls you in from the beginning. If you love characters who are "real", savor the closeness of small town life, plus enjoy a storyline that tugs at your heart, then this book is a must-read for you.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Uneven. Too Basic (or Irrelevant?) in Some Areas, Too Advanced for the Basic User in Others. Not Bad, But Not Great Either. By M. Hallisey I had previously reviewed Computers For Seniors For Dummies and gave it 5 stars. I thought it was an excellent concise guide for just about anyone looking for an introduction to computer and/or making the leap to Windows 10 for a previous version. "Laptops for Dummies" offers pretty much the same thing (though the first few chapters are - obviously - laptop-centric). Though the two books are very similar, I didn't find them equal to the task. It's difficult to explain, but I found Computers For Seniors For Dummies more engaging and containing less fluff."Laptops for Dummies" spends the first six chapters (up to p. 78) introducing the laptop form factor. Interesting stuff (for a computer-oriented history buff), but I wonder how many people would find it valuable. I suspect most would skip right to Chapter 8 ("Your Laptop and Windows"). What about Chapter 7, you ask? Chapter 7 is devoted to a brief introduction to the tablet (PC). To my mind, this chapter has the potential to be more filler (at best) or confusing (at worst) for the type person needing this book.So the book really starts on p. 93. From this point on it's pretty much the same as Computers For Seniors For Dummies and - I suspect - Mr. Gookin's PCs For Dummies (where the current rating, btw, is similar to how I've rated this book). Given the intended audience are those who really, really, really know next to almost nothing about computers I wonder if the book could confuse more than not. The author spends quite a bit of time introducing and explaining various ports and parts of the laptop, but the discussion on Windows (etc.) assumes a level of knowledge and confidence that is higher than the level assumed about laptops. In the end, just not sure the book works well enough to justify the cost ($25 retail seems pretty steep; $15 seems far more appropriate with an Amazon price no higher than $10). But as with Computers For Seniors For Dummies I plan on keeping it around: I'm sure it will be a useful addition to my counseling job where I often deal with clients who find computers necessary but overwhelming. Likewise, I bet this would be a helpful addition to the libraries of senior centers, adult continuing ed centers, etc.P.S. one of the best nuggets is found on p. 96 where the author describes the "start" screen in Windows 10 and names the "app panel" that pops up the "'What the Hell?' Area." Perfect. Spot on. Also, see p. 51 where the author addresses how easy (not) it is to migrate data in Windows 10. Priceless.

The HOW, WHAT & WHY of Laptops and Windows 10 By Lynrie I'm not new to laptops, but multiple Microsoft Windows versions coupled with computer technology advances, the cloud, apps, etc have me with scrambled brains. "Laptop For Dummies" makes it so much easier by providing tips and tricks to knowing, understanding, using and sometimes loving the power and capabilities of the laptop, it's new software upgrade, and the potential for improved use. This book is the 6th edition and the author, a PC guru, shares his experience and wisdom obtained over 2 decades in the industry to make the readers life easier by providing laptop info about:* purchase,* setup,* touring Windows 10- Start menu, programs, file storage, files from old computer,* file synchronization,* using Laptop for travel and/or business,* safe wi-fi usage,* managing battery power,* maintenance, troubleshooting and security tips. There's even more FUN stuff like uploading photos from smartphone or camera. All that and more are provided by the book itself, access to free Cheat Sheets for this book, Dummies Newsletters for an array of topics, technical and non-technical.

It isn't that I don't like it, but more that my expectations when it comes to hardware is high. Maybe too high. I note that at the beginning of review as a sort of a grain of salt warning.I selected this book because I got a new laptop for Christmas. My first laptop in years because my last one drove me nuts. It is Windows 10 and just seems a bit wonky at times so when I saw this book become available, I decided to take a look. Upon review, there are some things that were new to me. Like I realized that I had the monitor at the wrong angle and I did like the power saver information. For a beginner, this is a good book for overview. If an intermediate to advanced (I'd put myself firmly at intermediate), the content may seem redundant. For example, I don't really want to know the history of the laptop."Laptops for Dummies" is a nice intro book but I was expecting more.

Great for Beginners, Makes 3D Printing Accessible to All By Jackie Lam I was fortunate to get my paws on an advance copy of Joe Micallef's book on 3D printing. It's superbly written, easy to follow, and for newbies who don't have a lot of beans to spend. I love how the author gives so many resources on how you can get started using free or open source software and even outsource the printing if you can't afford to invest in equipment right away. I don't have a technical background and although it is for people who have some experience with 3-D art, you don't need it to follow along and learn. If you're fascinated by this innovative technology, I highly recommend it.

Literature/Poetry. Winner of the Panhandler Chapbook Contest. Environmental themes with meditations on Time, the Self, the Spirit, and American culture. Judith Baumel, contest judge, states: "...Hamilton offers a new ambition and a new voice to contemporary poetry. Here is a poet who is witness to the physical world as much as the intellectual ... a great chorus of the loud and the soft, the public, the personal. EARTH SONGS offers energetic and beautifully controlled language and a precise and lyrical eye. We can be grateful to M. Hamilton for [this] vision of the world...."

Earth Songs: Literature/Poetry (Panhandler Chapbook Award Series) (Volume 6), by Mark B. Hamilton

About the Author Mark B. Hamilton's work centers increasingly on the environment, especially along the Lewis and Clark Expedition route, including the Eastern Journals, 1803-1806. He is, perhaps, the only living person to have actually traced their entire route, on their approximate timetable, traveling as they did by paddle and pack mule: a two year, nine month, 8,000 mile journey. Published titles include EARTH SONGS, and CONFRONTING THE BASILISK, plus many individual poems, academic articles, and a video. Recent poems have appeared in Plainsongs, Ship of Fools, Written River, and Poetry Salzburg Review.
