Holding a Good Thought for Marilyn: 1926-1954 The Hollywood Years, by Stacy Eubank About the Author STACY EUBANK was born in Lubbock, Texas to Joe and Norma Meador. She was a member of the Class of 1978 at Olton High School. She graduated with an Associate of Arts degree in psychology from South Plains Jr. College in Levelland, Texas. She now lives in Las Vegas, Nevada. She is married to Bruce Eubank, who is a teacher and coach at Bonanza High School and a minister at South Valley church of Christ. They have a son, Bobby, who lives and coaches in Austin, Texas. Miss Eubank is an accomplished artist and has had her artwork included in Marilyn in Art by Roger Taylor. She served as research assistant to Dr. Lois Banner, PhD, with both of her books on Marilyn Monroe…MM Personal: From the Private Archive of Marilyn Monroe, and Marilyn, the Passion and the Paradox.

A Labor of Love, and the Ultimate Source on Marilyn's Hollywood Years By Bookaholic This 500-page tome covers Marilyn Monroe's tumultuous early life and rise to fame. What makes it different to most biographies is the in-depth focus on how her career was chronicled in the media. The wealth of material on how Marilyn was perceived in her own time is unprecedented, and even the most well-read Monroe fan will learn many significant facts that have been overlooked by other authors. The reader is also able to understand how Marilyn's public image shifted from one-dimensional sex object to beloved American icon in just a few years. And the private Marilyn - sensitive and intelligent - is not neglected. A full chapter is devoted to her trip to Korea, to entertain the US troops who helped to make her a star. Reading the many tales of her kindness and generosity, one is impressed by her being clearly so at ease with ordinary men - much more so, in fact, than she would ever be in Hollywood. Fittingly, a percentage of the profits from sales of this book will be donated to Korean War veterans. The book is illustrated with drawings of Marilyn, giving it a unique charm. An accomplished artist herself, Stacy also examines Marilyn's work with still photographers. Having started out as a model, she was more confident, and able to take control in a way that simply wasn't possible on the sets of her movies. While some of her early photo shoots were formulaic, with her best photographers - including Andre de Dienes, Philippe Halsman, and Milton Greene - Monroe posed for images that would establish her as one of the 20th century's defining beauties. A second volume, covering 'the New York years' - is forthcoming, but while this might be a heavy read for new or more casual fans, 'Holding a Good Thought for Marilyn' deserves to be known as one of the best, and most fully-researched volumes ever published about the ultimate screen goddess.
5 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Great addition to the MM library By Zelda Zonk Having read 200 pages so far I can already say that this book is an addition to the MM library. There are many new facts in this book due to thorough research by the author. It is written chronological and in a very pleasant style with many remarks taken from interviews with MM interwoven throughout. Behind the myth was a person and MM comes to life in these pages.I highly recommend this book to anyone who has already read almost everything out there, and to those who have not.

Must have By MarilynLover90 There has been a bit of scandal in the Marilyn community because of the author's personal views and her association with Lois Banner. First off, her personal views are her own and don't reflect her research. Secondly, please do not let her association with Lois Banner scare you off. She comes across soooooo much better than who she researched for. I have never highlighted a book in my life because of resell values and condition is very important to me. This book is now spitting out rainbows like a gay pride parade.This is not your average biography. Instead going through her life like any other biography, Stacy has compiled an impressive list of (sourced!!) magazine articles and quotes. Marilyn's life is basically told through press clippings. You will find TONS of quotes from Marilyn and about her from people who knew her well and/or worked with her professionally. What is really surprising to me is how many people remarked that she was heavy. At 5' 5.5" and 120 pounds, I do not see it. If you look at the Joseph Jasgur photos you can see ribs. Yet he thought she was a pudgy blonde.My only complaint is that Ms. Eubank tends to give both sides with no resolution. One of the best examples of this is Schenck and Marilyn. Marilyn candidly spoke about how she went to his home for the food being she was a starving actress. Schenck spoke about how she came for the food and he looked at himself as a father figure. Schenck would have no reason to lie about their relationship. Both parties adamantly denied an affair and it;s really quite evident. Marilyn was shrewd enough that if she had slept with him, she would have asked for something. Instead she waited 5 more years to make it based off of her own merits. Instead of presenting the last part, Stacy throws in how a crew member claimed Marilyn said she was sleeping with Schenck every day from 3-3:20. Marilyn was great about being discrete. I do not see her telling a random crew member that she is sleeping with a studio head.Overall a wonderful book. I am currently rereading it and the second time around it is even better. I have learned so much about Marilyn and it is fascinating to see how she was presented to the media throughout her career (to the end of 1954). Stacy is apparently writing a sequel (I'm assuming to 1962) and I personally can not wait. I plan on pre ordering the moment it is available. A real must have for any Marilyn fan.
