About the Author Dara Reidyr is the pen name of a poet whose love for poetry was rekindled after sixteen years of abandoning the craft. She was urged by a professor, as an undergrad literature student, to pursue writing upon graduation, but that never happened. After a long hiatus, she picked up the pen again at age thirty-nine and poured out the images from her mind onto the page. Her poems comes from visions, dreams, and images she “sees” on a daily basis. She loves to bring vivid imagery, life-like characteristics to nature, and a warm, subdued appeal to the worlds she creates on paper. Her poetic topics often have a mystical feel to them, but contain eclectic topics (human condition, macabre, nature, love). She currently has two poems that have been published: “Words Take Form: The Poet’s Creation” by Red Fez and “Daybreak” by the Lightkeeper. She is also author of her own blog entitled Creations in Poetry & Words.

I sat through the undergraduate courses in college and learned some of the basics. I read the classics (I know Wordsworth from Hardy.) but there was always something that held me back. In fact, I really didn't know "how" to write a poem. I tried.To me, poetry is essentially a distillation of emotions, visits and images. I envy those who can convey complex emotions to a few words and a few stanzas. I love Yeats, Byron and the contemporary poetry of Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen. But, a true appreciation of poetry in general has eluded me.Then I come upon the works of Dara Reidyr. After reading a few on her poems on her blog site, I was hooked. Here was a woman who spoke to me in a language I totally understood. She has the heart and soul of a true poet. This slender volume, "Traversing the Veil" is a collection of 60 short poems that are full of images that are at once dark, seductive, sensual, naturalistic and mystic. The works range from the whimsical "Afternoon Coffee" to a lamentation, "A Trip Through Oblivion" which is dedicated to her father, now deceased.Reidyr's tight concise style reminds me of such poets as Rainer Maria Rilke. She uses all the senses to convey her innermost thoughts and dreams.Dara Reidyr is an artist who uses words to paint images that stay with you.I'm hoping she will publish another volume soon.

These poems are rich, deep, and vibrant. The themes aptly describe many different topics including nature, love, fantasy, and humanity. Great writing, vivid imagery, and descriptions. Look forward to the next volume!
