About the Author Nikitha Hingad is a young woman from Bengaluru, India. She is a graduate in commerce and is currently pursuing her academic interests. She writes poetry in her free time and shares it with her close friends. Her other interests include art, dance, music and reading. As a child, she was exposed to books of varied genres such as philosophy, fiction, comic, self-help etc. Writing a book was always her dream.

By Nidhi Saxena Book Review: Philia and SophiaAuthor: Nidhi SaxenaGood poetry is like a sumptuous cup of tea meant to satisfy one completely. Recently came across “Philia and Sophia”, one of those delightful treasures in an underrated genre. Through this book, Poetess Nikitha Hingad seeks to entwine two rather incongruous concepts, one of “love” an irrational abstract to “wisdom” which deals with practicality. And she does so beautifully and surprises and indeed bewitches at every turn.Philia is playful, coquettish and even silly, the artlessness of some of the works making them even more charming. “I need you”, “Engaged”, “Intense love” and “How can I” are some poems that strike. But the two haikus and one quadruplet are the real treats.Sophia takes on a more sombre note. “I walk alone”, “Home sweet home”, “Formless”, “Surrender” and “Life” are noticeable works. The last Haiku, ‘My plants are drooping, seeking my care, my affection, weary of waiting’ says a lot in three lines.While the book is simple worded, a few works are naïve and need polish. “The Incomplete” spells out the essence of the book when it says ‘some gems are crude and unpolished’.

It was fun to read and there are a lot of compilation poems about love and wisdom to choose from.This book is very useful and helpful to people who are having a hard time expressing their emotions to someone they love or like. You would definitely learn a lot of tips along the way as well if you read the book.

As such, I decided to rate each section as their own books, and the rating above, is the overall rating.-----Philia; Rating: **Overall impression of Philia: big misinterpretation about origin of title; poetry superficial and repetitive; badly proofread/edited; lacks grammatical correctness in places. Would strongly suggest author to re-read work, find the errors and re-submit. It has some shining moments, but the constant errors overshadow the work.-----Sophia; Rating: ***Overall impression of Sophia: a noticeable (and vast) improvement over Philia; topics are more varied, deep, though provoking and mature; a far more enjoyable read.To read full review, please visit tinyurl.com/philia-sophiareview
