Welcome to FrameMaker - Creating and Publishing Content. Adobe’s FrameMaker software is the industry leader in technical publishing, and the release of FrameMaker 2015 continues that tradition. FrameMaker specializes in long-document formatting and automates mundane but essential tasks, such as maintaining running headers and footers, and updating tables of contents. It offers an easy path to producing multiple output formats, including print, PDF, and mobile formats.

This book shows new users how to use unstructured FrameMaker, the most popular of the FrameMaker user interface options, to streamline their publishing workflows for greater efficiency and productivity.

I’ve provided new screenshots throughout, as well as coverage of the new features in FrameMaker 12 and FrameMaker 2015. There’s even something for the most knowledgeable Frame folks. There’s a separate list of the features added by version, and lots of best-practice details transposed from my own “shop-worn” copy.

One of the most significant changes since the FrameMaker 11 version of this book is the emergence of the mobile web. FrameMaker has kept pace with new technologies like HTML5, EPUB, and Kindle. This book gives you the detail you need for many of the available FrameMaker options for multichannel output.

In addition to writing about FrameMaker, I practice what we preach. I’ve trained, consulted and written about FrameMaker since the early versions. In fact, the book you are holding was itself produced in FrameMaker 2015.

This book is intended as user reference, not as a training guide. If you are quite new to FrameMaker, I suggest you visit training.techcommtools.com for free and paid FrameMaker courseware, as well as look at my schedule of FrameMaker training classes available online or in southern California.

If you would like to express interest in additional FrameMaker or Technical Communication Suite subjects, please visit www.framemaker11book.com.

This is the story of my career of almost 20 years on patrol in the New York City Police Department. I battled the leaders of the department in an epic lawsuit for my equal rights while continuing to patrol the streets of northern Manhattan during the crack epidemic of the 1980's and 90's. I also wrote of my childhood, being raised by a drug addicted single mom in poverty and my struggles to make a normal life for myself in spite of my past.

By Momof5 I read this book with a heavy heart, I loved my career in the NYPD but this is a very true story of the inner walls. Thank you Marisa, you are a bold brave woman! I am the "Beth" in the book, and what she writes about... we lived. I wish you a happy life and am proud to say I was a small piece of your life. Everyone should read this book and buy it and pass it on to others. In my eyes, Marisa Perhaes Gorman.. you may have been a Sergeant..but SHOULD have been a CHIEF! Thank you for a great eye opening memory of horrible but true times. The blessing, we survived!

Gorman This book takes you behind the blue wall of silence that protects and covers-up the ugly sexism that permeates the NYPD. This author grew up on the streets of New York and took on the "establishment" of cowards and outright liars. Her story of grit and determination starts as a child where she developed the steel backbone to confront and actually defeat NYPD's brotherhood deceit, perjury and intimidation. Every women in law enforcement should read this as a primer on how to navigate, not only the streets of New York, but the hidden perils of becoming a female Police Officer. You may think you know the NYPD ---You don't.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. compelling personal story beautifully told By MikeShatzkin Marisa Perhaes Gorman is a great storyteller and her life gives her fabulous material. This narrative Aldo gives a clear picture of a changing New York and its Police Department. There are a few spots here that could have benefited from an editor, but those are details. There are no dull moments and you get a realistic picture throughout of what it was like to be a NYC cop in the 1980s and 90s and about the challenges of being a woman cop raising kids and coping with a totally sexist environment. And it is very entertaining.

Forever in the Vision of Decision, by Jerrold Banks

About the Author I started writing at the age of seventeen. This is when the first novel was written, but not published. I grew up in Elizabeth City North Carolina and came from a large family. At twenty-one writing was my mental escape and I spent quite a few years creating poems. My goal has been working on getting my writings published for a long time. I would like to thank my all my family and friends who believed in my work. They've seen me go through ups and downs and I have never lost faith in myself. I would also like to thank my deceased wife Dahl A. Banks, because she gave me the title for my poems.

Best Ebook Online The Song of the Jubilee (The Phantom of the Earth Book 1), by Raeden Zen

Taking place after the fall of civilization, The Song of the Jubilee is the first gripping story of a dystopian world altered by self-sacrifice, courage, vengeance, and love. In the Great Commonwealth of Beimeni, a subterranean civilization in North America, expansion long ago gave way to peace and prosperity in the face of the history's most devastating plague. Immortality is the reward for service and loyalty in Beimeni, a place where the physical blends with the metaphysical and power consolidates in the hands of those with a genetic edge. The fissures first spread slowly, then swiftly, until now the Great Commonwealth finds itself on the brink of economic devastation, challenged by forces from within that know its secrets and its crimes. At the center of the conflict lie the Selendias of Piscator, founders of the resistance with an uncanny connection to the zeropoint field, and the Barão Strike Team, three researchers tasked with finding a cure to the Reassortment Strain, the plague that nearly wiped transhumankind from the Earth. Traveling from the uninhabitable but pristine surface to the habitable but inhospitable underground, this is a story about dedication to dreams, battle for survival, discovery and connection, song and celebration, undoing past misdeeds, and sacrifice for the greater good. In The Song of the Jubilee, Captain Broden Barão, Striker Nero Silvana, and Strategist Verena Iglehart, together with the elite Reassortment research team, release a protohuman on the Island of Reverie, testing a serum designed to thwart the Reassortment Strain. They must find a cure to the plague or suffer the inevitable consequence for failure: demotion or worse, exile to the Lower Level some four thousand meters beneath the Earth's surface. Meanwhile, in the Great Commonwealth, two thousand five hundred meters deep, the resistance movement known as the Liberation Front suffers a disastrous defeat when its leader, Jeremiah Selendia, is captured by Lady Isabelle Lutetia, Supreme Director of the Department of Communications and Commonwealth Relations. With Jeremiah held by the government, his middle son unexpectedly finds the weight of the war on his shoulders. It falls to Johann to lead the Front, to rescue his father from one of the commonwealth's most impregnable fortresses, and to keep his younger, underdeveloped brother hidden from the chancellor, who forces foes to undergo clinical trials against the plague upon the surface. Johann's efforts draw the attention of powerful enemies and start a chain of events that will forever change his family, the Barão Strike Team, and the Great Commonwealth of Beimeni. MORE ABOUT THE PHANTOM OF THE EARTHThe Phantom of the Earth is a thought-provoking post-apocalyptic science fiction series. It relies heavily upon synthetic biology and quantum physics.

The Song of the Jubilee (The Phantom of the Earth Book 1), by Raeden Zen

Review David Estes, Author of The Moon Dwellers -- "[THE SONG OF THE JUBILEE] is a major SciFi book. It is extremely well-written and has a compelling post-apocalyptic hook. The characters and their situations are interesting (scientist, rebel leader, etc.). The underground but highly technologically based setting is vividly described." IndieReader Official Review -- "In a post-apocalyptic world, trans-human scientists fight a deadly disease while rebels battle with the leaders of Earth's last Commonwealth. ... This is the beginning of a complicated and intricate science fiction epic. ... The characters' personalities and backgrounds are revealed bit by bit in the course of the story, naturally and believably, so that they appear as three-dimensional people with real backgrounds and understandable motivations - no cardboard heroes or villains here. THE SONG OF THE JUBILEE is a vigorous yet thorough introduction to a very promising new science fiction world."  Rowena Hoseason, Top 50 Reviewer (Amazon UK) -- "Dazzling. That's the impact of this intro to an extensive dystopian sci-fi saga. The first book in a series of five, [THE SONG OF THE JUBILEE] sets the scene and themes in a complex, carefully crafted future history. ... [It's] a relatively short book. It contains a complete story arc, but it is only the tip of the overall tale. If you find yourself intrigued by the extensive cast of characters and the unfolding multiple scenarios, then you'll want to hop straight on to the next in the series, [THE GAMBIT WITH PERFECTION]."   What readers are saying:"The Phantom of the Earth is very thought-provoking and raises questions not just about what we would do in the event of an apocalypse but how we associate today in our society.""For me, a physics major, the high point was the scientific accuracy of the many elements used to create the world under the surface, and to create the material goods and human skills that make this world habitable.""Mr. Zen has created vivid, complex characters who populate a fully realized and gorgeous world where he spins storylines that capture your imagination and attention and holds it through the entire series of books.""An epic sci-fi adventure spread across a collection of five books in this special bundle.""There is no doubt that this series is a must read for all the lovers of science fiction and I wouldn't be surprised if I see it on the big screen someday.""As an engineer, I appreciated the author's commitment to scientific accuracy. He clearly consulted scientists and engineers about the subject matter, which emphasizes biology and genetic engineering.""Above all, this impressively detailed, passionately created glimpse of a possible post-human future is sure to be regarded as a notable addition to science fiction literature.""From one plot twist to another, Raeden Zen managed to deliver a solid succession of cliffhangers and resolutions from the first book to the last.""If I had one word to describe this omnibus edition of Raeden Zen's The Phantom of the Earth series it would be: spectacular."

From the Author FROM THE EDITORIt was a pleasure to edit Raeden Zen's Phantom of the Earth Series, asubterranean post-apocalyptic that readers of hard science fiction will enjoy. As much credit as Raeden deserves for getting the science right, consultingwith leading researchers in the field of synthetic biology and synthesizinginformation from a wealth of primary sources, what makes this series mostcompelling for me is the intergenerational conflict it explores. At its heart, this is a story about two families, the Selendias and the Barão-Rheas, whoshare a common goal of reclaiming earth's surface for humanity. But they comefrom factions with very different ideas about how much personal liberty thecitizens of Beimeni should sacrifice to achieve this aim.  Eternal partners BrodenBarão and Damosel Rhea, both scientists, work within Chancellor Masimovian'sregime to defeat the plague that drove humankind underground. High achieverswithin a society that prizes scientific progress, they have every reason toaccept the status quo, even if that means banishing underachievers to the LowerLevel and sending insurgents to their deaths on the earth's surface. At theseries' outset, the Barão-Rheas consider their lives forfeit to the greatercause of humanity's survival, just like anyone else.  Meanwhile, JohannSelendia, interim president of the resistance movement, strives to free hisfather from imprisonment and keep his underdeveloped brother from harm. Theurgency behind this mission is both tactical and personal given that Johann'sfather, the founder of the Liberation Front, stands to reveal sensitive secretsif he cracks under interrogation. At stake are the lives of millions ofmembers of the Liberation Front, including children, a rare sight in thecommonwealth, where babies are developed into adults in a matter of days.  What I so enjoy about thisseries is that neither death nor banishment can extinguish the true history ofthe Great Commonwealth of Beimeni, which surfaces bit by bit despite the efforts ofthose in power to snuff it out. A five-book series is the perfect format toadvance this big-canvas story, giving us first a glimpse, then a footing, andfinally the full scope of the world Raeden Zen has created. From book to book, children, siblings, and compatriots take up the flag for their cause before ithits the ground. Endings are therefore beginnings, the line between good andevil blurry at best. Discovering Beimeni along with its characters is anintense ride that reaches epic heights by the series' end--an experience not tobe missed. -Erin Wilcox, EditorABOUT THE EDITORThe former nonfiction editor of Drunken Boat and copyeditor for Alaska Quarterly Review, Erin Wilcox hasedited some of the finest talent of our day, from literary legend Grace Paley to2015 Pulitzer Prize winner Gregory Pardlo. From the Inside Flap Wilcox Editing Services Q&A with Author Raeden Zen Erin Wilcox: Hi, I'm Erin Wilcox and I'm here with author Raeden Zen, who is a client of mine and the author of the Phantom of the Earth series. How are you, Raeden? Raeden Zen: I'm doing well, how are you? EW: Excellent, and I'm very excited to be talking with you today about your books. Would you run down, just very quickly, what are the titles of the five books that you've written? RZ: Sure, so there are five books and the first book is The Song of the Jubilee, the second book is The Gambit with Perfection, the third book is The Synthesis and the Animus, the fourth book is The Descent into the Maelstrom, and the fifth book is The Restoration of Flaws. EW: And all told, how many pages have you written? Or words, or however you want to measure? RZ: In total it's about 415,000 words or about 1,650 pages. EW: Wow. So it's this huge big-canvas story, and there's just a whole lot of great world stuff, and there's always that question about how are we going to enter this world and find a way in. So I'm curious, and I'm sure our listeners are also curious, who is the main character that we meet first in book one? RZ: The first main character is Johann Selendia, and he is the son of the resistance leader. Initially, the conflict begins where the government has apprehended his father and Johann must act as leader of the resistance in his father's place. EW: And he is the resistance leader for what movement? What conflict is Johann engaged in? RZ: So the conflict is called the Evolutionary War and it's basically a decades-long guerilla war between the Liberation Front and the government of Atticus Masimovian. Johann's father and his mother founded the movement, although at the time of the story his mother has already been killed by the government, and his father at the start of the story has been taken captive. So Johann has to make a choice when his older brother unexpectedly arrives at his inaugural celebration, and he delivers new intel. His name is Zorian, and he lets Johann know he has new intel and schematics to the prison where he tells Johann that their father is being held. EW: Okay, so the plan is prison break--and spring Dad. Alright, very good, and where is all this happening? RZ: So it's happening inside the earth. It's really a three-dimensional setting, but the main setting is 2,500 meters deep inside the earth. That's where the main commonwealth lies, and then the rebels are sort of holed up in a shallower depth of 300 meters, but all of the story ... most of the story ... is inside the earth. EW: The rebels and the resistance leaders are one side in the Evolutionary War, and would you outline the other side? RZ: Yeah, so the main other side is the commonwealth--it's the Great Commonwealth of Beimeni. It's led by Atticus Masimovian and his wife, Isabelle Lutetia. Basically, it comes down to a vision for how to lead humanity in this sort of advanced world where everyone can live forever. If they serve the government, the government will allow them access to gene therapy that will enable them to live forever, and it's sort of a conflict between how to handle that kind of technology, how to handle immortality. The government handles it one way, where if you serve them you get it and have access to it, and the rebels don't feel that's the way the world should be run. They think everyone should have equal opportunity to basically live their lives the way they want, and that's essentially what the battle is over... Read and/or listen to the rest of the interview at wilcoxediting.com.

The events between follow the stories of several characters, including a research captain and a resistance leader; their stories eventually connect at the end in a way that was both surprising and shocking. The next book is available and am jumping right into it.

The first book in a series of five, ‘Jubilee’ sets the scene and themes in a complex, carefully crafted future history. It’s a world of contradictions and contrasts, saturated in vibrant technicolour throughout. The author uses a glittering palette to paint brilliantly vivid word pictures of almost-immortal telepathic transhumans, imprisoned within the earth by their own technology which sustains them underground but – in the form of a catastrophically virulent viral bioweapon – has rendered the surface uninhabitable. It’s a vast, sprawling vision, and it takes a bit of getting used to.This opening episode explains the basics of transhuman development, the staggering scope (and limitations) of technological achievement, and the dictatorial government which has spawned a ragtag rebellion. We meet the scientists struggling to combat the virus; under threat of mortal censure should they fail. The divided, sprawling population is oppressed by Marstone which monitors their thoughts – similar to the Big Brother viewscreens in 1984. Yet author Raeden Zen avoids obvious comparisons. While Winston Smith’s world was one of grinding, grey misery, emotionally stunted and physically deprived, the compliant citizens in ‘Jubilee’ enjoy utter abundance and unimaginable luxury. An underground civilisation might have been a dark place, dimly lit, suffocating and claustrophobic. Raeden Zen has instead built a spectacular edifice full of shining light, diamond-edged and dazzling… and all the more effective in its oppression of the human spirit thanks to its utter artificiality. These people have almost everything, yet they yearn for simple sunlight and fresh air. Their existence is all about contradictions: the title of the book refers to a great celebration, a massive street party… but one with the most sinister implications. The scientific content is also a credit to the author and his advisors. There are firm foundations to the biology, especially the struggle to manipulate the immune system to combat a virus which mirror-switches its genetic material and to the technological hardware.‘Jubilee’ is a relatively short book. It contains a complete story arc, but it is only the tip of the overall tale. If you find yourself intrigued by the extensive cast of characters and the unfolding multiple scenarios, then you’ll want to hop straight on to the next in the series, The Gambit With Perfection. The saga is perfect for readers who want an extended, immersive, inventive experience. If you’re looking for short-term immediate satisfaction, then you’re less likely to enjoy ‘Jubilee’. It asks many questions and starts many plots threads – most of them ‘to be continued’ as this episode draws to a close.8/10Please note, I was delighted to read an early version of the ‘Phantom’ series, and to provide feedback on it. I’m even more delighted that some of my suggestions made it to the published version – but that doesn’t affect my review, which is as unbiased as I make it. I was knocked out by this series at my first acquaintance, and still am…
