Anyone who has been to the Minnesota State Fair, or any State Fair for that matter, will enjoy the thoughts and observations in this book. As a former resident of Minnesota, this book brought back a lot of fond memories of roaming the State Fair every year. Even if you have never been to a State Fair or do not understand the hype of them, hearing observations about the interesting, and sometimes strange people who frequent them, will be open you up to a new world. I found myself laughing throughout the entire thing and would recommend it for anyone looking for an amusing read.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Very enjoyable read with a lot of laughs By rackingguy Ben's book is well worth the $0.99 price tag. He uses his trip as a humor-paced trip of self-exploration, and many times during this short read, I was glad I was reading alone lest someone get annoyed at my cackling. It takes a little while to get into the book and his storytelling style, but it's worth pushing through - which, in the context of the length of this book, is only a few minutes of reading. It's a fun way to spend an hour or two and a great value for the price!

How can it be Thanksgiving already? I haven't gotten to the Minnesota State Fair yet."Well, Buddy Boy, I hate to break it to you, but the 2014 Minnesota State Fair is long gone and it took with it the slide-of-your-life ride, the display of grammy's dill pickles and her magic brownies--which were quite a hit this year, the carnies trying to guess your weight after you ate too many fried Twinkies on a stick. You missed the chickens-crossing-the-road races. Everything. Yep, you missed the whole darn thing.Before you sink into the depths of depression, Buddy Boy, thanks to Ben Nesvig and his book appropriately titled, " Minnesota State Fair" you're getting another chance. And not only that, but buying Ben's book will save you enough cashola that you'll be able to stuff your freezer with enough Butterballs for the next decade of Thanksgivings.Seeing the fair through Ben's words is just like being there. Even better because you don't have to find a place to park. The only thing it lacks is the smells--a fusion of animal dung, hot grease, and hardworking carnies. If it had the scratch and sniff feature, I'd give it six stars. BTW, happy Thanksgiving.

No, when you first get the book and start thumbing through the pages, you won’t see your name. But as you begin to read and reflect on each of the diamond bright stories in this volume of quiet grace, you’ll see one thing above all else: you are included. These aren’t just stories for everyone. These are stories for every separate and distinct individual. It’s as if you alone wandered into her kitchen, heard her welcome you, smelled the breakfast bacon on the stove, took a sip of coffee and then sat back and relaxed as she said, “have I got a story for you.”That underlying voice assuring you that you are included rises first from Abbott’s talent for doing what only the very best writers can do: painting pictures of absolute clarity. Making the story, even when the subject is deep, complex insanely absurd or brutally hard, making the story simple. NEVER simplistic. Always simple. These are stories that you read, you totally, “get,” and you feel richer for knowing.But then something different happens. For years Mr. Horseman trotted through life with a long face, until he met Kathryn, a lonely woman pasture prime. Saddle up for a rodeo of emotions and personal development, as they start as a forbidden fling of just horsing around but only to find an unexpected, stable relationship, neigh, only to find love. With a spurned heart, Kathryn must decide whether to follow social norms or be with the horse-man she loves. Of course when found out by a nosy neighbor, the city stirrups trouble for the unique couple. The stress eventually becomes to much in the end however, and Kathryn and Mr. Horseman's love doesn't last furlong. Kathryn finds out shes not his mane partner and their seemingly everlasting affair turns into a real night-mare.

Kuttler This book is a haunting cross between narrative and poetry; each page more like vignettes in the same story than an individual poem. Part philosophy, part myth, the story digresses on the nature of human need and want through the lens of the body."Her mouth was the waves lapping against the shore.Her mouth was a general. Men lined up to stack their names at her feet, inher palms. She always made sure I knew who they were."I question the choice of using the female character - who is never named and broken down into body parts several times. It seems fetishizing, but, on the other hand, no character in It Is A Wild Swing of the Knife gets a truly fleshed out character. What, then, about femaleness lends the discussion gravitas or poignancy? I'd like to see Bradley explore this further, personally, if not in future published work.The writing is solid. Four stars.

Russell As a stay at home mom living with one income I have been trying to get creative with how I can earn some extra money for my family. This book was recommended to me by a friend and I am so glad I read it. There is so much useful information on Kindle Publishing. I really enjoyed how specific the book is. Anyone is capable of being a kindle publisher and can use this book as a big tool. The book was very easy to read and straight to the point. I definitely recommend it!
