A heavy truck idles at a gate, hazards flashing.        A shadow climbs out.   3 a.m., in a phosphorescence among sunflowers, devoured by peacocks and grey wolves        and the voice in the walls.   The sky swirls with glaze-green tidepools, a ring of Nibelungs, fog-white, blue-pale,        gliding fires and no sign of dawn.   3 a.m., in a building of dark halls, locked doors and conspiracies, of old leaky plumbing and betrayal, of tiny rooms where people are asleep, like caterpillars in the rainforest,        dreaming of peril and fertility.   I lie down on my lumpy duvet amid the hiss of glowing radiators, jars of walnut oil and turmeric, images floating across the room: a Peruvian mask, a coral shell necklace of light,        lies, rapture.   The windows crackle with blue electricity.

His work is terribly underrated and I certainly believe that will undoubtedly change some day very soon. Since I read him very nearly three years ago, I fell wonderfully in love with his writing and his words strung together lika drunken dream...I've often said, he writes like a painter, using texture and color, sense and vivid emotion that lift you and guide you along lika fantastic riverflow. He's passionate, fiery hearted just seen beautifully in his meandering, wandering thoughts. They reflect the deep down layers of the heart and the known things we all have, but oftentimes overlook. It's lika stroke of your hair and siren song to your heart. I've a wish that he has a thousand more and then some, Poems to write and stories to tell. This is a writer that will never be stagnant and stuck in the same place for very long...he's progressive and always searching and searching the very essential parts of the human spirit...reflecting them back at you in his own singular way. Truly an artist that changes the very molecules in the air with what he conjures up, what he magick's up. He's one to keep sight of for sure.Hallucinogenic Dragonfly Intermezzo is Mister Powers' latest writing endeavor...his first collection of Poetry. It's a collection of paintings really. You see the brushstrokes and smell the turpentine...all weaved inna beautiful, seductive word traveling. His Poetry takes you in just so nicely, just so knowingly. I'll definitely be acquiring everything he writes.

I have to say that AndEngine is one of the best Android game engines, and it's open source!. But there is no official documentation about it, so this book is the "missing manual" you need to learn how AndEngine works, and create successful Android games. This book covers from the most basic features, like setting up your project, to the more advanced like using native code. This book not only covers all AndEngine features, but adds more features, like using 3D models in AndEngine. So if you develop (or you will) games for Android, this book is for you.

By Bill Jones This book isn't for the absolute beginner, but with some prior reading you'll be able to easily digest this book. I gave the book 5 stars because it covered all the basics that I expect in a Game Programming Book, and having read quite a few of these tech heavy manuals (as well as following along) they should all cover math, theory, game mechanics, design, a solid game loop, and the use of shaders. The book covered skeletal animation with AndEngine which was really great and an added bonus for making your game go from indie to studio quality. The networking implementation was solid, and I always design my network communications prior to writing code so I can get all the logging features sorted out using UML diagrams.I highly recommend this title to anyone who is serious about creating games using AndEngine for Android Game Development, but most important a lot of the features are parallel towards PC/iOS game programming which makes this book more viable as a tool. While you'll have to utilize what you've learned here about design and organization to transfer to a different platform, it's highly possible because this book was so well covered.

It is important to note that this book is not for the C/Java newbie and anyone who does not know there way around the Android SDK. I particularly enjoyed the chapter on OpenGL and OpenGL ES.

With a sense of humor and no small touch of sarcasm, Elizabeth Denham relates numerous anecdotes and stories from her mostly disastrous experiences with online dating. Throughout most of the stories you’ll be saying to yourself, “Couldn’t happen.” But you know it did. She ends her storytelling with her favorite story about online dating and the book is worth reading just to get to that story. If you are a single female involved in or considering online dating, buy this book. If you know a single female who is online dating, buy the book and give it to her. ~Bob Zeanah, author of Work to Do

Want to find the perfect man without weeding through hundreds of crazies? This book is for you! It's funny, at times crazy, and most importantly true. Review “Reading this blurb is a form of inefficiency, because to know that this book is madly funny, full of wild invention, and definitively satirizes one of the most banal and loathsome of all American institutions, all you have to do is skip this blurb and open the book to any page.  But if you’ve made it this far, it’s too late. Sorry for wasting your time. OPEN THE BOOK.”—George Saunders, author of CivilWarLand in Bad Decline and Pastoralia  “You will laugh yourself sad at this fake catalog, lovingly crafted from the finest comedy by a couple of brilliant, funny douchebags.”—Patton Oswalt “The D.U.I. Mask really works!”—David Foster Wallace “Not since the days of Not the New York Times and The Journal of Irreproducible Results has the sly, surprising parody of otherwise ignored cultural detritus seemed so sharp and overdue; not since the days of the actual feral child named Kasper Hauser has humor writing been so nimble, hungry, wiry, and covered with a fine, catlike fur.”—John Hodgman, author of Areas of My Expertise and contributor to The Daily Show with Jon Stewart  “SkyMaul provides great reading on a plane, particularly on those long flights, because I usually forget to bring a book. I was disappointed that some of the items were on back order and, I’m informed, may not be available at all. But the fact that the catalog is available means that THE TERRORISTS HAVE NOT WON!”—Fred Willard        “This is the funniest catalog I’ve ever read. And they didn’t even go with the old lady holding the giant ‘massager.’ Funny and classy.”—Joel Stein, LA Times “This is the catalog that SHOULD be on every plane! A perfect absurdist comment on just how odd sky shopping truly is! I wish I’d had it on my last flight. Instead, I had to watch The Ice Princess.”—Nicole Parker, MADtv

I've seen them play to sold-out standing-ovation houses. I've even cried during their shows. But this book is hands-down their most hysterical achievement in a long long line of hysterical achievements. Buy this book. Buy it for friends. Buy it for strangers. Just buy it. And then read it. Or make your friends read it. Or your strangers. Then come back here and tell me how right I am. I like to know that I'm right. Cuz with this book, I'm right. Selections from this book will be shown to guests at my house for years to come.

9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Shave Me, I'm Drowning By Robert I. Hedges The surrealist comedy troupe Kasper Hauser puts their unique spin on airborne shopping with this wonderful spoof of the utterly ludicrous offerings of SkyMall catalogs. I was especially entertained by the narrative of "A Message From SkyMaul's CEO..." extolling how shopping saved his life (in Las Vegas, of course) and kept his family ("lovely wife, Pfepfer," "two children, Horace and Candy," and "Labrador buddy, Melchus") together. With that premise firmly ingrained, the catalog moves from the twisted and bizarre, to the surreal and other-worldly.It's impossible for me to pick my favorite product in the catalog, though I think the Llamacycle would be near the top of the list. I also loved the concept of the "'Cut Above' Electronic Hair-Salon-Naming Computer," ("Hairly Legal," "Shave Me, I'm Drowning," "Banged 'n' Feathered," "From Hair to Eternity," etc.), which with additional modules can also help name your scone cart, coffee shop, or crepe restaurant. The scientific part of my brain loved the "Air Straightener," while the animal lover in me liked the "'Moby Dick' Hamster Coffin." Perhaps my favorite concept in the book is the collection of "motivational posters" from "Probletunity Knocks." I utterly loathe motivational posters, so mocking them was a certain hit with me. For the extremely deranged there's the "Hitler-Turning-into-Werewolf Nightlight," sure to be useful because it's "new monitor function allows the wolf's eyes to follow you or your baby around the room and emits a 'safety growl' anytime someone moves toward it."Although the type of humor in the catalog is occasionally a bit base, the book is funny across the board and is the definitive skewering of the excremental products in the actual SkyMall catalog.

10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. Banana-gan-izer? What about a Hilarious-Book-O-Ganizer! By R. McCall I don't know who these guys are, but this is a really, really funny book. Are they with Saturday Night Live or something? The Onion? The products in their book, SkyMaul, are so twisted and unexpected and funny. I couldn't put this thing down. I read it all in one sitting. The Hitler/Werewolf night light! Who thinks of that? Whatever their next book, I'm in line to buy 12 of them. Very, very funny!

ENCHANTED - Love Poems and Abstract Art: Anthology, by Hank Beukema, Margaret Gudkov, Marieta Maglas, Christopher Novelozo, Andrea McKenzie Raine

Review HerEthics Books This love poems anthology is more than poetry book; the collection combines contemporary love poems with the visual aspects of abstract art: oil on canvas, watercolours, fractal art, impressionistic art and emotional photography. Each artwork is a story and readers are encouraged to contemplate the artist's urge for creating it. The anthology for those, who are able to depart from the literal way and enjoy the emotive, abstract lines of poetry. Melancholy - the principal mood of the anthology.

By J Bryden Lloyd Book Review: The Phantom Fleetby Julian BoyerReviewed by J Bryden LloydWriting Style – 3.0/5.0 (Okay)What content was there, was alright. Even bordering on good, as long as you were only really expecting a dialogue-driven, first person narrative. In that respect, it was passable. The structure felt awkward, the flow was almost non-existent as the plot jumped endlessly from problem to problem. Add to this a plethora of meaningless terminology thrown in everywhere (and only some of it sort-of-explained at the end of the story) and the result is what feels like a breathless sprint through something that feels like an opening sequence.Character Development – 0.0/5.0 (No Comment)This is a first. I’ve never given a zero before.Unfortunately, there was no character development, no background, no depth to the Lexi character (or any others). Nothing.Descriptive – 3.0/5.0 (Okay)All of the descriptive is very much done ‘on-the-move’, which only really works because of the battle scenario and all that is going on around the main character.Scene-building is negligible at best, only one character is actually described in any way, and then only in a very rudimentary way. There just isn’t enough to build upon.Language & Grammar – 2.0/5.0 (Poor)On the few occasions a normal sentence structure – with understandable terminology – was there, it was very good with a reasonable flow.As soon as the author deviated into anything else, it felt chaotic and thrown together. The editing looked like it was a spelling and grammar checker job. Too many spelling errors, missing or incorrect words… Not to mention the use of ‘WTF’ and ‘BTW’ in the dialogue… really??Just not ready for publication.Plot – 3.5/5.0 (Good) – VERY MINOR SPOILERSOkay. Let’s be reasonable here… The premise of the story and the central plot; Very, very good. There was a lot to be said for the idea of the refugee fleet arriving in the middle of a conflict and the confusion it causes, but this doesn’t seem to be the entire focus of the plot and, as a result, the execution is very erratic. There is no given timeline for the start of the story. Martians are clearly an ‘alien’ race… or are they? The refugees are apparently the descendants of a colony… or are they? If they are, then why are they so different? Many hundreds of generations must have passed. The author freely admits that there are some things he knows were wrong, but that really doesn’t excuse the massive plot holes that are thrown into the read… and with the best will in the world, there has to be enough realism in sci-fi to give it grounding. This doesn’t seem to have any.General – 2.0/5.0 (Poor)Nice cover, good plot potential. Not at all executed well.Possibly the most memorable part of the story is Lexi’s constant efforts to get a sandwich and a coffee. Beyond this, the writing seems to be aimed at how this would look as a big movie scene.Unfortunately, that needs descriptive and a prose which does not continually throw meaningless terms out as if everyone understands them. The daft thing is, I didn’t hate this. I really wanted to like it and yes, there were brief flashes of a well-told story. Regrettably, they were too brief and too few.I really don’t think this is beyond salvation, but this author needs to embrace a more descriptive style and, at the very least, a proper writing structure and look at this work with fresh eyes.In its current incarnation, even as a free book and a very quick read… 2 Stars.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. seemed like it was missing a real resolution By J. Charpie Short story, seemed like it was missing a real resolution. I like the change in time references from standard minutes/hours, but beyond that - there was unnecessary foul language. Overall, I felt like I got 4/5 of an episode, that made me wishing there was more and made me wonder what the broader story was. Not a complete waste of time, but also not the best reading I've had lately.
