THE Teaching Text (You're Welcome), by Doug Robertson

About the Author Doug Robertson has been an elementary school teacher for nine years now. As low man on the totem pole he moved around a lot, but it has given him a chance to experience all kinds of teachers and students. He now resides in southern Oregon with his wife and son, where he teaches fourth grade (again). For fun he trains for triathlons, rides his motorcycle, and makes small children cry at the mall. Doug vehemently resists the negative stereotype of teachers and fights for teacher rights as often as he can. He advocates for his students and loves and believes in each and every one of them. Doug has a grand plan to become a famous teacher and infect future generations of educators and students with his philosophy, which will lead to a joyous education renaissance, flying unicorns, and rock and roll for all.

It heals minor ailments such as cuts and scrapes and it tastes great when grilled and seasoned with ancho chile pepper. THE Teaching Text (You're Welcome) shifts paradigms in the steel industry and will singlehandedly recover the failing crude oil market. This book turned me into a newt. But I got better.

Only a pair of losers would write a book that could lead to their own humiliation or even their arrest. And that is exactly what Paw and Tommy have done in Born to Quit, Raised to Fail. The father (from NC)and son (from Texas) have put together a shockingly honest anthology of hilarious tales based on their own lives. Already a hit within university campuses, the illustrated collection of candid tales reveals a lifetime of incompetence, laziness and despicable conduct that you may want to share with others, but beware, some of the content may not be suitable for your grandmother. Hold onto your hat because the book is a fast-paced adventure, recounting stories such as an accidentally-on- purpose drive-by shooting, the bribery of a senior officer to get out of the Air Force, and the longest turd in the world—maybe it's your nose that you should hold onto and not your hat. The stories are wittily told, crude and a whole lot of fun, but you may find yourself laughing at Paw and Tommy and not with them.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Would be a great gift for guys behaving badly! By Cheri Mason Lewis This book gave me the giggles all the way through. Really, it is the tale of a father and son behaving badly and the resulting series of unfortunate events, like the school volcano project that ends up setting the grass on fire. It would be a great gift, especially for the kind of guys who would look up to the Sunshines as role models, and we all know there are plenty of those! This is a book for people who are losers and proud of it, people who want to laugh at those who are even more stupid than they are, or anyone who just wants to read something fun, mindless and entertaining. I do not read a lot of short stories, but these all gel together well, and by the end I felt I had got to know the two authors very well. The book is fast-paced, funny and nicely illustrated, and although these guys might be useless at most things, they certainly can tell a good story!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Funny and you may learn something, too By Andrew Hall Overall a very entertaining read. The story "Draft Dodging Simplified" stood out to me. I've had several friends in the military, and that tale exemplifies what I've heard about the bureaucracy that plagues the armed forces. It also touches on man's (not woman's) fascination with poo. It has everything.

Stories were hilarious By JB I had the pleasure of actually meeting Paw at my work one day, and from the stories he told me there, I knew that I had to read the book. All of the stories were very funny and entertaining. The stories were great, and the review section in the back of the book was hilarious. I hope that they will write a sequel with more stories. I would definitely recommend this book.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. This "book" is a scam, pure and simple. By tomh This so-called book is a scam.It is probably 30 or 40 pages long (I read on Kindle so don't know). Chapter 1 is a single paragraph including this useful tidbit: "The Java bytecode should be used for the purpose of compilation of the source code for Scala.", or my favorite, "The curly brace syntax of the C programming language is also supported in Scala." There are grammatical errors, missing examples, incorrectly formatted code, repeated examples, most of which say "Just type it in an see what happens" with little or no explanation. It covers Arrays (Chapter 3), Collections (which covers Lists in Chapter 4). Yes, this book sure is fast! Nothing about any types, something the author describes as "inheritance" (yes, with quotes), a couple examples of for loops, not even sure there's an example of defining a function or method, no mention of functional programming, and on, and on, and on. No mention of when to use var vs val or why, nothing about Some, Any, None, etc. This book could have been written in an hour, maybe less. The only value of this book would be for someone coming to an interview who doesn't know Scala and attempting to convince their interviewer that they do.If you don't believe me, use Amazon's "Look Inside" tool. I thought there was an error because it skipped right from "Chapter 1" (the paragraph) to Chapter 2. Nope, no error.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. No kidding about learning Scala fast By Lori Scott Scala programming at a whole new level. I wonder why there are very few people who'd seen this book. This book can really come in handy especially if you're a student or programmer. In order to achieve your goal, it is best to get back to the basics. The author also puts screenshots or samples just so you'll know what he is talking about. The author laid out great examples and description along with it and that makes this book so easy to understand.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. You can learn fast using this book indeed!! By KBach42 Despite its technical detail this is a great book to really get to grips wish the Scala language. What I would recommend is reading it a few times. This is the best general book on Scala programming language. The stress is on the 'general' part, because there are other books for specific aspects of Scala programming. There are also books that may suit you better for understanding some of the concepts. This book is aimed at experienced programmers, but no prior knowledge of Scala, functional programming, or the Java ecosystem is required (though all would be helpful). If you even think you might want to use Scala, Programming in Scala is well worth the investment.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. What flavor is your tree? By J. Chambers Scott and Jackie Ferrell have created an original series of warmly humorous stories about Mr. Marceau, his dog Gaston, and his parrot Gregorie, and their idyllic life together in a little village in northern France. In a earlier story, Birdie! Birdie!: A Dog. Two Parrots. And The Zoo., the threesome visited the Paris zoo and brought home a new friend - another parrot, named Birdie. In "Mango! Mango!" the four friends are taking a winter holiday in the French Alps. Gaston, Gregorie, and Birdie weren't very familiar with snow, but they quickly learned how to have fun in it. Little Gregorie soon got an idea that had everyone working on original snow sculptures. They were pretty, but some of the children who were working on the sculptures had a creative idea to make their creations tasty as well as beautiful. And that, of course, was just fine with Birdie. The stories should be well received by children. They're fun stories with loveable Gaston the dog; little Gregorie, the sometimes mischievous parrot; and their newest family member, Birdie, with the kindhearted Mr. Marceau to keep them from getting into too much trouble.I read the book for free with my Kindle Unlimited subscription.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Read! Read! By H. Connault Back to France where Mr Marceau lives with his unusual pets in this ongoing series. It is amazing to see what a dog & two parrots might get up to in each story & this book is no exception. While the unsuspecting Mr Marceau is "off camera" for most of this story, his dog Gaston & his two parrots Little Gregorie & Birdie continue their shenanigans while on vacation by rolling themselves into snowballs & eventually completing a snow sculpture, much to the amusement & with the cooperation of some children playing nearby. As always, this a warm & sweet story with some beautifully realized illustrations. A great addition to the collection!

By Jackie Ferrell describes the scenery and weather so well one can easily imagine being in the snowy mountains in France. All the books by Jackie include valuable concepts relevant to young readers. This specific book provides ample opportunity to integrate topics and concepts such as fruit, weather, setting, topic words, high frequency words, adjectives, synonyms, antonyms, differences and similarities and much more! The valuable facts entwined with fictional events in all Jackie’s books make this a great series for very young readers up to the age of 9 years.

Disney History from the Source

The Walt's People series is an oral history of all things Disney, as told by the artists, animators, designers, engineers, and executives who made it happen, from the 1920s through the present.

Walt’s People: Volume 13 features appearances by Virginia Davis, Reg Massie, George Bakes, Milt Neil, Al Dempster, Joe Grant, Woolie Reitherman, Becky and Carla Fallberg, Jean Erwin, Jules Engel, Fred Kopietz, Donald Duckwall, George Sherman, Floyd Gottfredson, Richard Todd, Roy E. Disney, Norman "Stormy" Palmer, Paul Kenworthy, Hunt and Chris Hibler (about their father, Winston Hibler), Boyd Shaffer, Fess Parker, Dave Spafford, Bob Moore, Blaine Gibson, X Atencio, Don Iwerks, and Tony Baxter, plus articles by John Canemaker and Pete Docter.

Among the hundreds of stories in this volume:

  • Pixar's PETE DOCTER, the Oscar-winning director of Up and Monsters, Inc., examines the forgotten career of John Sibley, Disney's "Tenth Old Man", whose animations still dazzle today.
  • FESS PARKER relates how a bit part in the classic 1950s giant ant monster movie Them! netted him the role of Disney's Davy Crockett.
  • DON IWERKS, son of Walt's first partner Ub Iwerks, chats with Michael Broggie, son of Walt's first Imagineer, Roger Broggie, about their respective careers following in the footsteps of their fathers.
  • VIRGINIA DAVIS recalls her role as "Alice" in Walt Disney's Alice Comedies, a series of short films from the early 1920s that predated Mickey Mouse and were equally as important as Mickey in putting Walt on his path to success.

The entertaining, informative stories in every volume of Walt's People will please both Disney scholars and eager fans alike.

I Wish I Could Give Higher Than Five Stars To This Book By Jim Korkis Didier Ghez is an internationally acknowledged and respected Disney Historian whose many contributions have greatly enriched the preserving and sharing of information about the history of Disney, both the man and the company. At nearly 600 pages, this book would be a bargain at twice the price as it is packed with uncensored, unvarnished first hand stories that have never been previously told and give new perspective. I have several hundred books in my personal Disney book collection but the Walt's People series has a prominent shelf all its own because I frequently go to them not only for research but just to re-read an interview because they are so entertaining and informative. You don't need to be a Disney expert to enjoy this book or the rest in the series. Didier is careful to provide introductory material before each interview as well as a plethora of footnotes to explain, embellish or correct things that the person has said. I have contributed to the series since the first volume and I know that it is a "labor of love" for Didier. Any profit is immediately re-invested in the next volume. Prominent writers are proudly involved with this series because of Didier's great personal integrity and gentle kindness and because they want to support his desire to get this material in print not only to share with current Disney fans but with future researchers before it is lost forever. Buy a copy of this book to help speed the publication of the next always entertaining, always informative, always surprising addition to the series. I wish it were possible to give this book higher than a "5" rating. If I could, I would write two reviews so it would have a "10".

12 of 13 people found the following review helpful. Another great Walt's People volume from Didier Ghez By Robert A. DeLucia Clear room on your bookshelf for another great volume of Walt's People! This one is huge and they seem to be increasing in size as they increase in volume number, which is a great sign for armchair Disney historians. Didier continues to uncover more untold history for all of us diehard Disney fans wanting to know more about the people behind the magic. If you've read Disney history books in the past but haven't picked up a Walt's People book, you're missing out on a treasure trove of stories told first hand from the people that were there. You can read/hear about key moments in Disney history from different employees points of view, giving you more of full picture of what happened without any sugar coating. Many of the interviews were source material for other published Disney history books and Disney biographies and you get to read them here unfiltered. Also the series doesn't not have to be read in order, so you can start right off with volume 13 and work your way backwards or select the volumes with the artists that interest you most to start. You'll be hooked after you read one volume. I can't tell people enough how much my Disney knowledge has increased with this series and anxiously await the next volume. Thanks for creating the book series Didier!

This book offers a different perspective than one would find in official authorized works about Walt. It is a collection of interviews of several of the (many) people who worked for him. What I liked most, is the candor of the people being interviewed. They felt free not to "sugar-coat" any of their answers, giving very truthful responses. To think that most of the people interviewed are no longer living, makes me appreciate the work of the various interviewers, capturing all of this valuable insight, that would have otherwise been lost. I enjoyed this book very much, and will be buying the other two in the series.

Prepare to be moved and shaken to the core. You'll feel the depth of his soul and experience a love done right, but gone wrong. A must read.
