Author Neil R. Beller Jr. uses his merry, yet mischievous memoirs to wrap you up in the warm blanket of his youth. The memories he paints a picture of aren't sappy, wistful, or mushy though. They are bursting with chuckle-provoking antics and with humorous sentimentality that we can all relate to. Born and raised in the quiet suburb of Carney, Maryland in the '60s and '70s, this Baltimore native's novel contains tales of growing up with a father who employs a stare-and-breathe method of discipline, an endearing, flaming red-headed mother who disciplines his antics in public and laughs at them in private, and a band of neighbors and friends who join Neil in his quirky misadventures. Allow him to transport you in the Way Back Machine to a time when simple fun was enjoyed by all. Take the "big blue bus" down memory lane to Missing Pine Park.

A look back at growing up that will vividly bring back memories of your own childhood. The neighborhood and city you grew up in may have looked different, but what made us all tick was the same! --Marty Bass, Television News Personality, WJZ-TVAfter meeting Neil at Orioles Fantasy Camp, not only did I discover he could pitch a baseball, but I also found out he could pitch a hilarious story! It was a much simpler time when your biggest worries were whether you had enough to field a team and if you had the COOL jeans everyone was wearing and if you could get home before the street lights came on. Today's young people would be well schooled to learn of a time when your parents said "go out and play" and we did. Neil's trip in the way back machine reminds me not just of my youth but a time of safety, fun without electronics and using your imagination. Reruns were a bummer and you listened to Casey Kasem play the top songs of the week on an a.m. radio. His stories are heartwarming and funny an refreshingly honest. Grab a copy for your beach read and make sure your friends do, too. You won't be sorry.
