Mark R. Hunter is an author, firefighter, humorist, dad, and self-proclaimed home maintenance failure from northeast Indiana. His weekly humor column "Slightly off the Mark" appeared in three newspapers for over twenty years, which is coincidentally the age of his first grey hair, before being unceremoniously cut short in 2014. This volume collects his previously unpublished and “leftover”columns.

Hunter is an absolute treat, both for long-time Hunter fans, and any of you late arrivals. These are bits of comedic writing at once both personal and personable. It's no small trick to consistently come across as warm AND funny, but this humorist delivers, page after hilarious page.Inside this collection, dedicated to his readers who faithfully followed his weekly column for over 20 years, Hunter alternately whispers, croons, and rants his way through most every topic imaginable: from odd opinion polls, to tips on surviving medical care; from advice on staying sane as a writer, to advice about staying sane in mid-winter; from biting political satire, to Halloween costume critiques (Elsa from 'Frozen?' Or Zombies?); from the author's bruised history of household accidents, to why Ohio seems to serve up so many astronauts -- you'll be charmed and entertained when you veer Slightly off the Mark!

Funny as all get-out By Kay Kauffman With columns on everything from politics to the weather (one of my own favorite topics), this book was chock full o' laughs. I was crying with laughter within minutes of opening this book, and I elicited strange looks from my family as I continued reading. At 190 pages, it was a quick read, and I finished it within a day. I've been in a bit of a funk lately, and this was just what I needed to cheer me up. So if you haven't checked it out yet, I highly recommend it.

By Joleene Naylor Slightly Off the Mark is a collection of unpublished humor columns written by Mark Hunter for the newspaper - that is until he was labeled 'redundant'. However, these columns are anything BUT redundant. With a variety of topics from writing to household injuries, to storm chasing, higher learning, and the mystery of Ohio's predilection for flight, there is something for everyone within the pages of this collection, and a chuckle on every page. Mark's wit, humor, and ability to make the mundane (and even the horrific - a prostate exam!) hilarious makes you eager to turn the digital pages. You can sit down and enjoy this gem in an afternoon (as some reviewers have done), or enjoy an article or two a day (like I did.) No matter your preference, you're bound to find giggles, guffaws, and laughs galore. Here's hoping there's a Slightly Off the Mark 2!
