This hilarious book tells the story of the Enlisted Submariner. The author doesn't pull any punches describing the good, the bad, the funny and the just plain ridiculous of the Submarine Service. Besides a wealth of information about what it's like to serve on a submarine, you'll meet real life characters like Tongue, Snake and Button Butt John. Did submarines make them rude, crude, and crazy. Or does the Submarine Service act as a magnet for every nut in the Navy? One thing is sure, after two months underwater, and with their back pay in their back pocket, Sub Sailors are as wild as cowboys after a cattle drive. Bar the doors and hide your daughters. Every reader owes it to themselves to use Amazons “Look In” feature to take a peek inside this unique and entertaining book.

I rode her 5 years after we commissioned her and knew her like the back of my hand By Robert Kinney As a plank owner of SSN-553, the third 637 class boat commissioned, which I rode down the builders way when she was launched in 1966, I rode her 5 years after we commissioned her and knew her like the back of my hand. The author mentioned the Queenfish 651. Queenfish was our sister ship, we shared office space with her pre-commissioning crew on the barge until office space was available for us. She was commissioned in Dec 66 and we were commissioned April 67. I noticed a few errors in some of his descriptions of machinery locations and other things. Both boats were supposed to be Identical. I suspect he may have had a lapse of memory, was remembering something from another boat, or perhaps intentionally changed some things so as not to be divulging classified information. I still enjoyed the book and enjoyed remembering the things he mentioned. I was a Nuclear Operator on my boat.

Deer I enjoyed this book very much as I also joined the Navy at 17 and after 1 1/2 yr on a destroyer I went to sub school and started out on a diesel boat. I retired as a Nuc trained Master Chief Engineman. I did not experience the problem with XOs and Officers that Richard had and frankly never was at a bad command. What surprised me the most was that my wife read the book and ask me what all the acronyms ment. I never used "Navy Talk" around her or family, but she read it cover to cover and enjoyed it. I also wrote a book that is an autobiography and covers my Navy career completely. The name of the book is "Submarines, Airplanes, and a Good Life In Alaska.
